The NALSAR University of Law has announced the First Dr. P. S. Rao Memorial Essay Writing Competition 2026 through its Centre for International Trade and Business Laws. The competition is being organized to honour the birth anniversary and contributions of renowned international law expert Dr. P. S. Rao.
Theme
The competition is based on the theme:
“Critical Minerals, Digital Economy, and Global Value Chains: Rethinking Trade and Development”
Participants are encouraged to explore contemporary issues related to international trade, critical minerals, sustainability, digital transformation, and global governance.
Eligibility
The competition is open to:
- Undergraduate law students (3-year or 5-year LL.B.)
- Postgraduate law students (LL.M. or equivalent)
- Students of international trade, environment, natural resources policy, and mineral governance
Suggested Sub-Themes
Some of the suggested topics include:
- Trade and geopolitics of critical minerals
- Deep sea mining and legal issues
- Critical minerals and digital transition
- Human rights and environmental accountability
- Green energy transition
- India’s strategic interests in international discourse
Awards
Winners of the competition will receive:
- First Prize: ₹10,000
- Second Prize: ₹7,000
- Third Prize: ₹5,000
Selected winners may also receive opportunities to present their research at the upcoming CITBL conference and pursue virtual internships with the centre.
Registration Fee
- Single Author Submission: ₹450
- Co-Authored Submission: ₹700 (maximum two authors)

The Centre for International Trade and Business Laws (CITBL) was established at NALSAR University in 2022 to promote research and dialogue in international trade law, commercial law, and global business regulation.
