VANDA National Junior Science Olympiad 2026: An International Science Competition for Young Innovators

The VANDA National Junior Science Olympiad is an international science competition open to students from:

  • Grade 3 to Grade 11
  • Primary 3 to Secondary 4

The competition follows the Singapore School Science Syllabus with strong emphasis on:

  • Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)
  • Scientific reasoning
  • Problem-solving ability
  • Application-based learning

Unlike traditional Olympiad exams that may focus heavily on advanced theories, VANDA includes familiar school-level concepts while challenging students to apply them creatively and logically.

Eligibility

VANDA 2026 is open to:

  • Students from Grade 3 to Grade 11

Each level receives an age-appropriate paper based on the Singapore Science syllabus.

 The competition includes different sections designed to test conceptual understanding, reasoning, and application skills.

Section A

Questions 1 to 10

  • Correct Answer: +2 points
  • No Answer: 0 points
  • Wrong Answer: −1 point

Section B

Questions 11 to 20

  • Correct Answer: +3 points
  • No Answer: 0 points
  • Wrong Answer: 0 points

Application Question Section

Questions 21 to 23

  • Correct Answer: +3 points
  • Wrong/No Answer: 0 points

Questions 24 to 25

  • Correct Answer: +4 points
  • Wrong/No Answer: 0 points

Bonus Points

  • Every participant starts with 10 bonus points

Perfect Score

  • 77 Points

The paper is designed to encourage careful thinking, scientific analysis, and application-based problem solving.

Every participant will receive:

Top-performing students will receive:

  • Award Certificates

  • Medals

Medal Distribution

  • Gold Award: Top 8%
  • Silver Award: Next 12%
  • Bronze Award: Next 20%

Overall, the Top 40% of participants will receive medals and award certificates.


Perfect Score Award

Students achieving a perfect score will receive:

  • Perfect Score Award
  • SG$100 Voucher

Voucher Details

  • Vouchers can be used for participation in other SIMCC competitions
  • No cash alternative will be provided

Maximum Voucher Distribution

  • Up to SG$5000 total for all perfect scorers
  • If there are more than 50 perfect scorers, the amount will be divided equally among them
