MathWorks AI Challenge 2025: A Global Opportunity for AI Innovators

Artificial Intelligence continues to transform industries, research, and everyday life. To encourage innovation and practical problem-solving in AI, MathWorks has launched the first edition of the MathWorks AI Challenge, inviting students, researchers, and engineers from around the world to develop impactful AI solutions.


The competition offers participants the opportunity to work on real-world AI projects, showcase technical creativity, and compete for prizes of up to $1,000 USD.

About the MathWorks AI Challenge

The challenge focuses on solving problems in the field of Artificial Intelligence through innovative approaches and practical implementations. Participants can select projects from the curated Artificial Intelligence technology trends list available on the challenge project hub.

The event aims to encourage experimentation, open-source collaboration, and real-world application of AI technologies.

How to Participate

The participation process is designed to be straightforward and accessible.

Step 1: Choose a Project

Participants must select a project from the Artificial Intelligence technology trends list available on the challenge hub.

Step 2: Complete the Project Sign-Up Form

A project sign-up form is available through the selected project page. Even participants who have previously signed up can still submit solutions before the deadline.

Step 3: Build and Upload the Solution

Solutions must be uploaded to a GitHub repository under either:

  • MIT License
  • 2-Clause BSD License

The repository should include:

  • Source code
  • Documentation
  • Models and datasets (if applicable)
  • README.md with usage instructions and relevant links

Step 4: Submit Before the Deadline

Participants must submit the GitHub repository link through the official project submission form before the final deadline.

  • Submission Deadline: July 18, 2025
  • Winners Announcement: August 29, 2025

Prize Structure

Top-performing teams will receive cash prizes:

  • 1st Place: $1,000 USD
  • 2nd Place: $500 USD
  • 3rd Place: $300 USD

Additionally, other submissions that satisfy project requirements may qualify for standard submission rewards.

Participants must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have an interest in Artificial Intelligence

Teams are allowed, but only one designated representative per team will receive the prize if selected as a winner.

Employees of MathWorks are not eligible to participate.

Participation is completely free.

Judging Criteria

Submissions will be evaluated by MathWorks engineers using a 100-point scoring system.

Evaluation Parameters

  1. Real-world applicability — 25 points
  2. Novelty and innovation — 25 points
  3. Quality of code and documentation — 25 points
  4. Depth and completeness of the solution — 25 points

Participants can also earn additional consideration by creating a YouTube tutorial explaining their project and implementation.

In case of tied scores, judges will consider:

  • Difficulty level of the chosen project
  • Quality of instructions and documentation
  • Inclusion of a YouTube tutorial
