The Golden Pinwheel Young Illustrators Competition has officially opened submissions for its 2026 edition, inviting emerging illustrators from around the world to participate in one of the leading international illustration competitions connected to children’s publishing.
Organized as part of the China Shanghai International Children's Book Fair since 2015, the competition aims to provide young illustrators with international recognition, professional exposure, and opportunities to connect with publishers, brands, and creative industries.
International Platform for Emerging Illustrators
The competition welcomes professional illustrators, art students, and illustration enthusiasts from all countries. Participants must be between 16 and 45 years old, specifically born between 1 January 1981 and 31 December 2010.
Entries can be submitted by:
- Individual illustrators
- Schools and associations
- Authorized third-party organizations
- Publishing houses submitting works from their own catalogues
Participation in the competition is completely free of charge.

The Golden Pinwheel Competition offers several prestigious awards, including:

- People’s Choice Award
All finalists and award winners will be featured in the CCBF Golden Pinwheel Young Illustrators Competition Yearbook and showcased during the Golden Pinwheel Illustration Exhibition at the book fair.
Additionally, one selected winner will be invited by the organizing committee to design the official visual identity for the next edition of the China Shanghai International Children’s Book Fair.

The previous edition recorded significant international participation, receiving:
- 15,209 artworks
- Submitted by 2,435 artists
- From 78 countries and territories
According to the organizers, this represented a 9.7% increase in submissions compared to the previous year.
Submission Guidelines
Entries must follow the required technical specifications:
- File format: JPG or PNG
- Maximum file size: 20 MB per image
- Minimum resolution: 300 DPI
Applicants submitting published works must also provide:
- ISBN number
- Publishing house name
- Country
- First publication date
