IIT Palakkad Science Camp 2026

The Indian Institute of Technology Palakkad (IIT Palakkad) is set to host the sixth edition of its prestigious residential science camp, a unique initiative aimed at nurturing young scientific minds.

This camp is conducted in memory of late Prof. M. C. Valsakumar, former Professor of Physics and Dean of Student Affairs at IIT Palakkad. Fondly known as Valsa, he was not only an exceptional researcher and teacher but also a compassionate human being. This programme continues his legacy by inspiring students to develop a deep love for science.


About the Programme

The science camp is supported by a corpus fund established by Prof. Valsakumar’s family and friends, reflecting a shared commitment to education and scientific curiosity.

Students will be selected from schools across:

Kerala
Coimbatore district (Tamil Nadu)

The core objective of the camp is to:

  •  Instill scientific curiosity
  • Encourage critical thinking
  •  Foster a love for science and mathematics

It also provides a wonderful platform for students to interact with:

Researchers at IIT Palakkad
Peers from different regions

Eligibility Criteria

Students must:

Be currently studying in Class XI
Belong to a science stream
Be from Kerala or Coimbatore district

Science Quest 2019 @ IIT Palakkad

IIT Palakkad is conducting a residential science camp in memory of Late Prof. M. C. Valsakumar, former Professor of Physics and Dean Student Affairs at IIT Palakkad. Prof. Valsakumar, Valsa to his friends, was an excellent researcher, an extraordinary teacher and above all a humanist. Spreading his passion for science is our way of continuing the journey with him.

IIT Palakkad will select 30 students from schools across Kerala and Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu. The goal of the camp is to instil a spirit of inquiry and critical thinking, and love for science and mathematics in students. This camp would also provide a platform for interactions between students from various regions and researchers at IIT Palakkad. There will be interactive sessions on various topics in science, engineering and mathematics, and several hands-on sessions in labs where scientific concepts will be introduced through experiments.

MSSRF State level Vacation Training camp for Students

MSSRF is Organizing State level Vacation Training camp in May 2018 for students awaiting their X class results. The students selected for the camp will have multi dimensional curriculum that includes class room lectures, interaction   with various scientists, experts from the field related to environment & conservation activities and with farmers. Apart from this, the students will have opportunity for project work, field and exposure visits to various research institutes.

The camp is free of cost. Maximum seats : 30

Date of the Camp: 2 - 11 May 2018

Students interested in science and the environment are encouraged to apply and should send their biodata with consent from the Head of the Institution and from parents / guardian along with one page note on “Why you want to be part of this Camp”. The writeup can be in English or Malayalam.
