Summer Immersion Program (FUSIP) Flame University

FLAME University announced a Summer Immersion Program for high school students.
The programme will be held in the beautiful campus of the University, situated in Pune, in the month of May and of 2-week duration, this program offers high school students an opportunity to experience life in a liberal education University campus while strengthening their skills though a mix of exciting academic and non-academic modules which provides a basis for a strong foundation to succeed in college and beyond.

The curriculum is inter-disciplinary, delivered in a framework that embraces the spirit of liberal education at FLAME University. A spirit that places special emphasis on critical thinking, research, engagement with diverse ideas and perspectives, while inculcating the values of leadership, teamwork and effective communication.

The academic modules have been designed to be contemporary and relevant, with content and delivery that goes beyond what is covered in a traditional high-school classroom. Special focus will be placed on honing of team work and leadership skills. Young students have the opportunity to experience residential life in the University with access to all its facilities that makes FLAME unique.

Who can Apply?
Applicants have to be Xth, XIth or XIIth grade high school students. They can be residents of any country. Copy of grade sheets of the previous 2 years will be required.

Application forms and cheques/demand drafts should be submitted by the following deadlines:

Amrita COVID-19 Challenge 2020


Amrita School of Engineering, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham in collaboration with MathWorks is organising a competition Amrita COVID-19 Challenge 2020.

About the Contest
Humankind  is grappling with a new enemy, The Coronavirus disease (COVID-19). It has taken nearly one lakh lives so far and is one of the deadliest challenges the human race has faced this century. 

As scientists and doctors try to develop a cure and possibly a vaccine for this dreaded killer virus, students too can play a significant role in developing technological solutions to help our country in this hour of need.  

Amrita School of Engineering along with MathWorks is hosting this competition for future engineers and scientists. 

This is an opportunity for students from schools across India to  come up with solutions to tackle the COVID-19 and future pandemics.  

Who is Eligible? 
Those who are currently in 10th / 11th / 12th standard can apply 

About the Competition
The competition will be conducted in two phases: 

Phase 1 - The Idea: Submit your idea in the given format. No coding required. You need to select the thematic area, come up with the title of the proposed work (eg. Forecasting COVID-19 daily spread in Tamil Nadu), a brief description of the solution and a diagram representation of how your system will function. 

Phase 2 - The Execution: You need to come up with a workable solution with using MATLAB. MATLAB is widely used in scientific and research community, worldwide. In case you are not familiar with MATLAB, we will try our level best to help you.  

Online MATLAB version along with licence key will be provided for all the candidates selected for Phase 2." Exclusive tutorials with certification on how to start with MATLAB will also be provided: (Topics covered in these tutorials are mentioned below) 

Programming with MATLAB
Machine Learning with MATLAB
Deep Learning with MATLAB
Phase 1 and Phase 2 dates: May 10 and May 30, respectively.  

Important Considerations
This competition is data driven and hence the following terms shall be strictly adhered to: 

Privacy of patients and people under quarantine should be preserved. Hence, no personal details should be used.  
Solutions should be scalable, assume that your solution will be used by hundreds, if not thousands, of people. 
Any datasets to be used for designing/testing/validating the system should be from an openly accessible source.  You can find a lot of informative datasets using Google Dataset Search

Times Scholars 2019

The Times Scholars programme is an endeavor to encourage school students of classes X to XII to develop a reading habit that helps them develop a holistic understanding of our society, the environment, and an informed worldview, enabling them to become good citizens and write a better future for themselves.

REWARDS AND RECOGNITION AFTER THE FINAL ASSESSMENT :
For Class XII: The best performing 100 students to be awarded a Dell laptop each. Selected students from Class XII will also be eligible for admission in the undergraduate courses at Bennett University with a scholarship applicable for 1 year. The students will need to fulfill the eligibility criteria of the University.
For Class X and XI: The best performing 100 students to be awarded a Dell laptop each.

ELIGIBILITY
Students of classes X to XII can apply for this programme in two different levels, which are defined below. These levels constitute two categories in which participants will be evaluated.
Level 1 - Students from Classes X and XI
Level 2 - Students of Classes XII
The programme is free for all candidates. There is no registration fee.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Registration :As a first step, candidates need to register online for the programme. 
Reading Phase :Beginning October 25, The Times of India newspaper will carry ONE article each day, in its print version, across a range of fields such as current affairs, science & technology, sports, politics, social issues, education, global developments etc. over a span of 50 days. These articles will provide multi- dimensional perspectives to help students get a deeper understanding of various interesting subjects. The articles will have a label reading TIMES SCHOLARS.
Practice Tests and Presentations :Weekly practice tests will be conducted online, with questions based on the article. Twice during the programme, candidates will be asked to summarize articles and share their view in the form of a PowerPoint presentation, which they can upload on the site. Each practice test will comprise 3 stories, each with 6 questions, to be answered in 15 minutes.
Final Examination :During Dec 21-23, 2019, there would be an online test followed by an interview to assess the students’ understanding & perspective. The test will comprise 11 stories, each with 6 questions, to be answered in 60 minutes.
First Shortlist and Interviews :The First Shortlist of the programme will be decided basis the cumulative score i.e. participation marks in the practice tests and presentations + marks achieved in the final examination. The best performers, in terms of the cumulative score, will need to appear for an interview in person.
Winners and felicitation :For each of the two levels (as mentioned in the Eligibility criteria mentioned earlier), 100 winners will be chosen as winners. A select number will be invited to a felicitation ceremony whose details will be communicated later.
