About the Panini Linguistics Olympiad

The Panini Linguistics Olympiad (PLO) is an educational, fun, and challenging competition designed for students in grades 6th to 8th (Juniors) and grades 9th to 12th (Seniors). It fosters problem-solving skills, computational thinking, and an appreciation for linguistic diversity. Participants solve intriguing puzzles ranging from deciphering flower formulae to exploring the evolution of languages—all without requiring prior knowledge of linguistics or languages!

PLO serves as the Indian national program for selecting and training candidates to represent India at the International Linguistics Olympiad (IOL). The program is coordinated by leading institutions such as Microsoft Research Labs India, IIIT Hyderabad, JNU Delhi, and the University of Mumbai, with active support from regional centers, including IIT Guwahati, Chennai Mathematical Institute, SNLTR Kolkata, and IIT Patna.

Eligibility

• Juniors: Students studying in grades 6th to 8th.

• Seniors: Students studying in grades 9th to 12th.

1st Ukraine – India Students’ Writing Contest 2024 is the first of its kind essay competition open for all Indian students grade 6 to 12 studying in any curriculum like GCSE, IGCSE, IB, CIE, CISCE, CBSE or any other boards in India.

To my Ukrainian Friend: “The world is lonely without friends. I have many friends. But the most interesting of them is my friend from Ukraine. Let me tell you about this wonderful friend.”

Senior Group: Grade 9-12

Word Limit: Up to 600 words.

Theme:

The Beauty of Ukrainian Culture: Culture is the soul of its people. There are so many things that you may know and like about Ukrainian culture. Please write about one of the aspects of the cultural heritage of Ukraine. (Choose any one: literature, poetry, folklore, fine arts, folk art, culinary traditions, festivals, folk and classical dance, musical traditions, films and cinema, performing arts and the theatre, ethnic attire and ornaments) OR

For a Stronger India-Ukraine Friendship: Ukraine and India are far from each other geographically, but we are very close culturally and historically. Ukrainian is an Indo-European language that has many similarities with Indian languages. India and Ukraine have established diplomatic relations since 1992 and have exchanged full-fledged Embassies in Kyiv and Delhi. How can our friendship become stronger? Make your suggestions.
