INTERNATIONAL ECONOMICS OLYMPIAD

The International Economics Olympiad (IEO) is a prestigious annual competition designed for high school students with a strong interest in economics, finance, and business . Bringing together talented young minds from across the globe, the Olympiad encourages participants to develop analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and real-world economic understanding.

Supported by Nobel Prize-winning economist Eric Maskin, the IEO has rapidly grown into one of the most respected international academic competitions in the field of economics.

The International Economics Olympiad is organized by the International Economics Olympiad Association , headquartered in Bern, Switzerland. The organization operates as an independent and neutral body, free from political and religious affiliations.

Participation in the Olympiad is completely free of charge , making it accessible to students from diverse backgrounds worldwide.

The IEO aims to transform the way economics, finance, and business are taught and learned by:

The Olympiad consists of three key components that test both theoretical knowledge and practical skills:

Participants answer 25 multiple-choice questions focusing on:

  • Financial literacy
  • Investment basics
  • Personal finance concepts

๐Ÿ“ˆ Economics

This section includes a mix of:

  • Multiple-choice questions
  • Open-ended problems

Students are tested on both economic theory and real-world applications .


๐Ÿ’ผ Business Case Study

In this round, students:

  • Analyze real-life business scenarios
  • Develop strategic solutions
  • Present their ideas in English before a panel of judges

This stage emphasizes communication, teamwork, and presentation skills .

๐ŸŒ How to Participate

Participation in the IEO typically involves the following steps:

  1. Check National Availability
    Students must verify whether their country participates in the Olympiad.
  2. Contact National Organizer
    Each participating country has a designated organizer who conducts the national selection process.
  3. Compete Nationally
    Students compete at the national level to qualify.
  4. Advance to International Stage
    Winners represent their country at the global Olympiad.

If a student’s country is not listed, they can contact the organizers to explore participation opportunities.

Ashoka University Economics Olympiad ’25

Ashoka University’s prestigious Economics Olympiad 2025 is back, offering a unique and intellectually stimulating platform for high school students to explore, apply, and showcase their understanding of economics in a competitive environment.


Organized by the Ashoka University Economics Society (AUES), the Olympiad is more than just a test of knowledge—it’s a multi-stage experience that challenges students to think critically, collaborate effectively, and present confidently. AUES is known for its efforts in making economics accessible and relevant beyond the classroom through events, research initiatives, and speaker sessions.


Who Can Participate?

  • Students currently in Grades 10 to 12 across India

  • Participants with a keen interest in economics, current affairs, data interpretation, and policy-related issues


Structure of the Olympiad

The Olympiad unfolds over three rounds, designed to holistically evaluate conceptual clarity, analytical reasoning, teamwork, and presentation skills:

๐Ÿ“… Date: October 3, 2025
๐Ÿ•™ Time: 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM IST
๐Ÿ“ Mode: Online (via Unstop)

Participants will take a comprehensive quiz consisting of 40 application-based questions:

  • Microeconomics – 10 Questions

  • Macroeconomics – 10 Questions

  • General Knowledge – 10 Questions

  • Quantitative Analysis – 10 Questions

This round is focused on evaluating conceptual understanding and the ability to reason through real-world scenarios.

๐Ÿ”น Round 2: Group Discussion

๐Ÿ“… Date: October 4, 2025
๐Ÿ•ฅ Time: 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM IST
๐Ÿ“ Mode: Online (details will be shared with qualifiers)

Participants will be grouped and assigned economic topics in advance. Each group will engage in a 40-minute moderated discussion, where students will present arguments, challenge perspectives, and collaboratively explore solutions to real-world economic challenges.


๐Ÿ”น Round 3: Final Presentation

๐Ÿ“… Date: October 4, 2025
๐Ÿ•‘ Time: 2:30 PM – 6:00 PM IST
๐Ÿ“ Mode: Online

Participants will receive a problem statement and will be given 120 minutes to prepare a 1-page presentation slide. Each finalist will then:

  • Present their solution in 3 minutes

  • Face a Q&A session with the panel of judges

This round tests both your problem-solving approach and your ability to communicate complex ideas concisely.
