India’s Streets Reimagined invites participants to rethink the role of streets in Indian cities and develop innovative design ideas that make urban streets more inclusive, comfortable, safe, and vibrant public spaces.
About the Competition
Streets have always been an important part of urban life. From historic bazaars and neighbourhood lanes to modern avenues and transit corridors, they are not simply routes connecting one destination to another.
Streets support movement, commerce, social interaction, recreation, livelihoods, and everyday community life.
However, many urban streets today give greater priority to vehicles, leaving limited space for pedestrians, cyclists, public transport, informal activities, and greenery. Extensive hard surfaces, insufficient shade, and inadequate vegetation can also contribute to uncomfortable outdoor conditions and increased urban heat.
The India’s Streets Reimagined Design Competition challenges participants to imagine streets that can successfully balance mobility, ecology, safety, accessibility, and public life.
Participants can explore how thoughtful urban and architectural design can transform streets into healthier, more inclusive, and people-friendly spaces.

Why Rethink Indian Streets?
Rapid urbanisation has created several challenges for cities, particularly in densely developed regions such as Delhi NCR. Congestion, heat stress, air pollution, waterlogging, unsafe movement, and the shortage of quality public spaces can affect everyday urban life.
