National Yoga Olympiad 2026

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), on behalf of the Ministry of Education (MoE), has announced the National Yoga Olympiad (NYO) 2026 , a nationwide initiative aimed at promoting yoga and healthy living among school students across India.


The National Yoga Olympiad was launched in 2016 as a follow-up to the celebration of the International Day of Yoga observed every year on June 21. Since then, the Olympiad has become an important platform to encourage children to adopt yoga as a way of life and to strengthen awareness of India’s rich cultural heritage.

Schools, teachers, and students interested in participating are encouraged to complete their registration before the deadline.

Importance of National Yoga Olympiad

Yoga is an integral part of Indian culture and tradition. The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 emphasizes developing among students a deep-rooted pride in being Indian not only in thought but also in spirit, intellect, and action.

The National Yoga Olympiad helps students:

  • Develop physical fitness and flexibility
  • Improve emotional balance and mental well-being
  • Learn discipline, concentration, and mindfulness
  • Build healthy habits and positive human values

During the competition, students are evaluated on various yogic practices, including:

  • Asanas (Yoga postures)
  • Pranayama (Breathing techniques)
  • Kriya (Cleansing processes)
  • Dhyana (Meditation)
  • Bandha (for secondary stage students)

These activities help in the holistic development of learners by improving physical, emotional, and mental health.
