The Japan Illustrators Association has officially announced the JIA Illustration Award 2026, an international illustration competition inviting artists from around the world to showcase their creativity and artistic talent. The annual contest is organized to discover emerging illustrators and provide opportunities for talented creators who may not yet have gained professional recognition.
Applications for the competition are open from 2 April to 30 June 2026.
International Platform for Illustrators
The JIA Illustration Award welcomes participation from both professional and amateur artists. Illustrators from any country can submit their original artworks, making the contest a global platform for creative expression and artistic discovery.
The competition accepts works from a wide variety of genres and techniques, including:
- Hand-drawn illustrations
- Digital artworks
- Three-dimensional creations
However, all submitted works must be original and unpublished for commercial jobs or client projects. Organizers have also clearly stated that artworks using artificial intelligence, even partially, are strictly prohibited.

Submission Guidelines
Participants may submit up to five works. The competition has detailed technical requirements for submissions:
- All entries must be submitted as JPEG files in RGB color mode
- Image dimensions must remain within 2,000 pixels in width and height
- Each file should contain only one illustration without text

firstname_lastname_number.jpg
For traditional hand-drawn works, artists are required to scan or photograph the artwork and convert it into digital format.
For three-dimensional works, applicants must submit three photographs taken from different angles as a single set.
Entry Fees
Entry fees vary depending on the number of submitted works and whether the participant is a member of the Japan Illustrators Association.
