The GENIUS Art Olympiad is a global competition designed to engage young artists in environmental advocacy through the medium of visual art. It provides students with a platform to use their artistic talents to create works that raise awareness about pressing environmental issues. The competition invites artists to showcase their skills, express their concerns, and offer solutions through a variety of artistic mediums, including photography, poster design, and mixed media art.
This unique opportunity allows students to engage with an audience on a deeper level, motivating them to think critically about environmental sustainability and inspiring positive change through their creative expressions.
Competition Categories
The GENIUS Art Olympiad offers several categories for students to choose from, each designed to encourage different forms of creative expression. Here are the three categories:
1. Art | Photography
- Photography is a powerful tool for storytelling, and in the GENIUS Art Olympiad, it is used to raise awareness about environmental issues.
- Students can submit photojournalistic, documentary, experimental, or expressive photographs that highlight various environmental themes such as pollution, deforestation, climate change, and the impact of human activities on nature.
- Emotional Impact: Photography should aim to evoke an emotional response from the viewer, whether through images of destruction, hope, or transformation in the environment.
- Example: Take a look at some award-winning environmental photography to get inspired.
2. Art | Poster Design
- A poster is a dynamic and visually engaging way to communicate important messages to the public, and in this category, students will design posters that inspire action regarding environmental issues.
- Posters can be created in any medium, including digital, painting, or pencil, but at least 90% of the work must be done by the student artist.
- The poster should aim to educate, motivate, and provoke thought on topics such as waste management, water conservation, air pollution, global warming, and more.
- Example: View some environmental awareness campaign posters for professional examples of how impactful design can drive change.
3. Art | Mixed Media
- Mixed Media art allows students to combine a variety of materials, textures, and techniques to create unique, three-dimensional works of art. This category encourages creativity and innovation in expressing environmental issues.
- Students are encouraged to use recycled materials (such as paper, fabric, or cans) and found objects to create their artwork, making the medium itself part of the environmental message.
- 3D Artwork: The final piece should not exceed 8 inches (20 cm) in depth, and students must ensure the artwork is strong and durable enough for display.
- Example: Browse through some 3D environmental art examples for ideas on how to incorporate recycled materials into a meaningful piece.
