TSL 2026 International Student Competition

TSL 2026 International Student Competition: Theme Announced

The Trust for Sustainable Living (TSL) has announced that the theme of its 2026 International Student Competition is “Sustainability Culture.” The competition is open to all students worldwide between the ages of 7 and 18, and participation is free.

Students are invited to submit one entry each, sharing their thoughts and ideas on what sustainability culture means and how it can shape our future. Entries may explore questions such as:

  • What does sustainability culture—or unsustainable culture—look like?

  • What changes are needed in cultural practices to make them more sustainable?

  • Can we imagine a world where sustainable cultural practices are the norm?

  • What can we learn from past or existing examples of sustainable cultural practices?

Submissions can be presented in a wide variety of creative formats. The only requirement is that each entry must focus on the theme of sustainability culture and be original.

All entries must be submitted on the TSL Competition platform through a registered Teacher Champion. Teachers or parents who wish to support students must create a teacher/parent account if they do not already have one. The deadline for entries is 1 March 2026 (midnight UTC).

The competition continues a global conversation about sustainability. Since the United Nations adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015, the world has made progress but many goals remain off track. In 2022, UNESCO leaders highlighted the importance of culture in achieving sustainability, and further discussions will take place at MONDIACULT 2025 in Barcelona, Spain. This competition gives students the chance to share their ideas on how culture can contribute to the SDGs.

Key dates to remember:

  • Entry deadline: 1 March 2026 (midnight UTC)

  • Finalist and Honourable Mention results: 1 May 2026 (announced on the TSL website)

  • Student Debates: early July 2026 (exact dates to be confirmed)

The competition brief and entry resources are available on the TSL website for students and teachers who want to prepare. Schools are encouraged to participate and help students engage with this global challenge.
