The GEMA International Short Story Writing Competition 2025 invites young storytellers from around the world to showcase their creativity and imagination. Open to writers aged 18 years and under, the competition offers a unique opportunity to get published in a global storybook created by and for kids.
Competition Details
Participants are challenged to write a story in 1,500 words or less. The best stories will be published in the GEMA Children’s Story Book, available both in paperback and eBook formats, and distributed in more than 30,000 stores across 150+ countries, including Amazon.
- Top 20 stories will be published in the official book.
- Top 50 stories will be featured on the GEMA website.
The last date to register and submit stories is 31 October 2025.
Prizes and Recognition
The contest celebrates winners in each age group with Gold, Silver, and Bronze trophies, along with medals and certificates. Prizes also include:
- GEMA’s signature “Budding Author” training course (worth $150)
- Kidzania passes
- Certificates for all participants
In addition, every participant receives a 1-month story writing course and a certificate, ensuring that all young writers benefit from the experience.
Schools with 50 or more participants will have a School Level Winner, who will receive a Gold Medal, the “Budding Author” course, publication on the GEMA website, and a feature in GEMA’s quarterly newsletter sent to schools worldwide.
Categories and Word Count
The competition is divided into four categories to ensure fairness and fun:
- Sub-junior (7–8 years): minimum 300 words
- Junior (9–11 years): minimum 500 words
- Middle (12–14 years): minimum 700 words
- Senior (15–18 years): minimum 1000 words
For all categories, the maximum word limit is 1,500 words.
How to Participate
Entering the competition is simple:
- Fill in the registration form.
- Pay the entry fee of INR 500.
- Submit your story via the Google Form link provided after payment.
Stories can only be submitted through the official form (not by email, except for bulk school entries). Participants will need a copy of their story file, ID proof, and the payment receipt to complete submission.
