The Magazine Committee of Government Law College, Mumbai invites you to participate in the Belles-Lettres J.E. Dastur Memorial Short Fiction Essay Writing Competition 2024! Established in memory of the late Mr. Jal E. Dastur, an illustrious alumnus and accomplished Chartered Accountant, this competition celebrates the art of storytelling and provides a national platform for creative writers to showcase their talent.
Held in association with méLAWnge, the historic annual magazine of Government Law College, this competition aims to honor Mr. Dastur's legacy by fostering creativity and encouraging aspiring writers. Each year, méLAWnge captures the thoughts and voices of legal minds and illuminates discussions that shape India’s legal landscape. Join us this year to be a part of this rich tradition!
Exciting Topics for 2024
Participants have the freedom to choose from thought-provoking and imaginative themes:
- Conclude with: “…and she felt stars were brighter tonight.”
- Objects to Incorporate: A crystal ball, a matchbox, and a disposable camera.
- Character-Based Story: Sylvia Plath, Franz Kafka, and Fyodor Dostoevsky meet in a junkyard.
- Image-Based Prompt: Build a story around the provided image.
These themes invite participants to push their creativity, building unique and memorable narratives.
Eligibility Criteria
- Participants must have completed their HSC/CBSE/ISC (10+2) or any equivalent.
- Must be enrolled in a graduate or postgraduate (Diploma) course.
- Postgraduate degree students are not eligible.
- Only single authorship submissions are allowed.

Submission Guidelines
- Language: English
- Word Count: Between 1,500 to 3,500 words
- Format: .doc/.docx and PDF, with Times New Roman, 12-point font, 1.5 line spacing, and 1-inch margins.
- Anonymity: Entries must not disclose the author’s identity and should be titled with the team code.
- Originality: Only original, unpublished work. Plagiarism will lead to disqualification.
