International Building Design Competition (IBDC) 2022

International Building Design Competition (IBDC) 2022 aspires to bring students from Institutes of Higher Learning (IHL) all over the world into Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology. It hopes to create a robust platform where students can share best practices in BIM, foster teamwork within multiple disciplines, get exposure to software used in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry and showcase their projects using Integrated Digital Delivery (IDD).

Participants are free to select a project site of their choice in their country and decide on their preferred building typology for the competition, while taking into account three main aspects in their proposal:
• Sustainable building design
• Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA)
• Integrated Digital Delivery (IDD)

The IBDC 2022 is open to all full-time local and international students from tertiary institutions in your respective countries. Form a team of 3 to 8 members to participate! Multi-disciplinary teams comprising members from a mix of disciplines are encouraged.

Sustainable Building Design is the practice of creating structures and using processes that are environmentally responsible and resource–efficient throughout a building’s life–cycle from siting to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation and deconstruction.
1. Energy efficiency (Zero Energy Building – ZEB or Super Low Energy – SLE)
2. Water efficiency (Urban Water Design)
3. Environmental protection (Low impact)
4. Indoor environmental quality (User well–being)
5. Other sustainable and innovative features that contribute to better building performance

The Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA) approach is to produce components in a factory environment and the parts are assembled on site, to save cost, time, effort and resources. The following parameters should be taken into consideration for time and cost planning purposes:
1. Equipment for hoisting (type, number of cranes, loading capacity)
2. Production rate of factory (modules per day / hoisting time per module)
3. Site storage capacity
4. Project Construction timeline (timeline savings / manpower savings)
5. Modularisation and standardisation of DfMA components (no. of module types, no. of components with standard/modular dimensions)
6. Volume and type of DfMA Components

1. Registration period is from 14 Mar (Mon) till 30 Jun (Thur) 2022.
2. Submission for competition entries will close on 15 Jul (Fri) 2022, 2359 hrs Singapore Time (GMT +8).
3. Participating schools must be registered tertiary institutions in their respective countries.
4. Each school may send more than 1 Participating Team.
5. Each Participating Team needs to have a minimum of 3 members (including the team leader) and is allowed to have up to maximum of 8 members (including the team leader).
6. Participants below 18 years old are required to obtain consent from their respective institutes and
parents/guardians to participate in the competition. Participants may be required to show proof of
such consent upon request of the Organisers.
7. The Participants are required to update the Organisers on any replacement of team member latest by
30 Jun (Thur) 2022.
8. The Organisers reserve the right to reject any Participant who does not meet the eligibility criteria.
9. The Organisers reserve the right to cancel and/or modify the terms and conditions, at any time, during
the competition.
