Science Buddies Engineering Challenge 2025: Rocket Catcher

Are you ready to take on the challenge of building a rocket-catching device that can safely land a falling rocket vertically? The Science Buddies Engineering Challenge 2025, sponsored by OnSemi, invites students from around the world to showcase their engineering skills and creativity. With $10,000 in prizes up for grabs, this is your chance to innovate and compete with students globally!

About the Challenge

The goal of the challenge is to create a device that can catch a falling rocket and help it land vertically without crashing. Your score will depend on the height of the fall and the minimal materials used to construct the device. Whether you’re a primary or secondary school student, this challenge is for you. Students can work individually or in teams of up to four members.

How to Participate

  1. Build and Test: Design your rocket-catching device and test it according to the challenge instructions.

  2. Choose Your Team: Students can participate on more than one team, provided the teams are formed in different circumstances and feature unique designs.

  3. Submit Results: Entries can be submitted online between February 16, 2025, and March 17, 2025.
