Science without Borders® Challenge 2025: International Student Art Contest

Are you passionate about the ocean and its creatures? Do you have a knack for creating stunning artwork that can raise awareness? The 2025 Science Without Borders® Challenge is the perfect opportunity for you to showcase your talent while contributing to ocean conservation efforts!

The Science Without Borders® Challenge is an international art competition that encourages students to use their creativity to promote the protection, preservation, and restoration of our oceans. Hosted by the Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation, this annual contest provides an opportunity for students to learn about marine ecosystems and the vital species that keep them healthy, all while competing for exciting scholarships.

2025 Challenge Theme: "Marine Keystone Species"

This year’s theme, “Marine Keystone Species,” asks students to focus on a specific keystone species living in the ocean. These creatures are critical to maintaining the balance and health of marine ecosystems, and your artwork can help shine a light on their importance. Whether it’s a predator, prey, or any other species, keystone species are essential to preserving the intricate web of life under the sea.

For your submission, you should create artwork that highlights the role a keystone species plays in its ecosystem. This could include species like sea otters, sharks, coral reefs, or any number of ocean-dwelling organisms that are critical to the health of the environment.

Prizes Up for Grabs!

The Science Without Borders® Challenge is not just a chance to showcase your artistic talents but also a way to earn scholarships. The winners will be awarded the following prizes:

  • 1st Place: $500
  • 2nd Place: $350
  • 3rd Place: $200

Additionally, there’s a “People’s Choice” award for each age group, where the winners will receive a $50 scholarship based on public votes.

Eligibility: Who Can Enter?

This international art competition is open to all students aged 11-19. Whether you’re in primary or secondary school (or the home school equivalent), you are eligible to enter. College and university students are not eligible for this contest. The competition is divided into two categories based on age:

  • Students 11-14 years old

This division ensures fair judgment across different age groups and gives all students a chance to win big!
