GREEN Olympiad
GREEN Olympiad is an annual written examination on environment initiated by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in 1999. The exam is conducted by Educating Youth for Sustainable Development Division of TERI and attracts participation from lakhs of school students across India and abroad.
UNESCO and DESD (Decade of Education for Sustainable Development -2004-2015) has endorsed GREEN Olympiad since 2011.
Green Olympiad is also supported by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, Army School Education Trust. CBSE, Bhavans Vidya Mandir and Hero.
Organised by TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute), GREEN Olympiad is India’s premier environment-based examination. Since its launch in 1999, the Olympiad has inspired lakhs of students across the country to learn about environmental conservation and sustainable living.
What makes GREEN Olympiad truly special is that it is endorsed by the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India. It is also promoted by major educational organisations including Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS).

Examination Details
Important Dates
- Registration Deadline: 31 July 2026
- First Examination Date: 08 October 2026
- Second Examination Date: 18 November 2026
Eligibility and Levels
Students from Classes 4 to 12 can participate through four levels:
- Level 1: Classes 4 & 5
- Level 2: Classes 6, 7 & 8
- Level 3: Classes 9 & 10
- Level 4: Classes 11 & 12
Schools can nominate any number of students, but a minimum participation of 20 students across all levels is required.

The examination is designed to test knowledge in an engaging and student-friendly manner while encouraging curiosity about the environment.
Registration Fee
The registration fee is ₹250 per student (inclusive of taxes).
Schools can retain ₹30 per student for conducting the examination.
Students can also opt for a GREEN Olympiad Model Question Paper Booklet by paying an additional ₹100. The booklet is available in English and helps students prepare effectively for the examination.
