Women's Pavilion 2021 Architecture Competition

The worth of a civilization can be gauged from the place that it gives to women. Women today have distinguished themselves in various spheres of life as orators, doctors, diplomats and so on. There is no denying the fact that women all across the globe have made tremendous progress in this constantly developing economy.

While many have taken on the world with confidence there are still an awful lot of women trapped in the shackles of domestic violence and gender inequality. Violence against women need not refer to only physical violence. It is much broader and includes sexual, emotional, psychological and financial abuse.

The obstacle between violence and empowerment is often a lack of education. Education has the potential to help women seek employment opportunities and make them financially independent. It is this independence that empowers women to not only seek growth themselves but also acts as a catalyst to empower others around them.

It's imperative that we facilitate a sustainable environment for women; one that is empowering and opens up multiples avenues for them to thrive.
Eligibility
Women’s Pavilion 2021 is an open ideas design competition. The competition is open to students and professionals from all walks.

The Social Network - Article Writing Competition

IDS is proud to present The Social Network in partnership with Teach For India. This initiative is a bridge that connects the youth to various social causes that surround us. Aligning with our organisation’s motto, this project aims at creating knowledge and awareness amongst the youth, of the persisting societal issues utilizing dialogue, deliberation and resolution.
Our goal is to collaborate with a non-profit organisation that is actively working on one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations and help them achieve their objectives with the help of our youth’s vision. This project will take place in the form of an article/resolution writing competition spanning over three months. As we know, the pandemic has disrupted the education system for children. It is high time for the youth to come up with resolutions that will help overcome or leverage the impact of the pandemic. The work that Teach for India does has inspired us to build our agendas around the disparities in the Indian education system.Hence, this year we are targeting the Sustainable Development Goal 4 - Quality Education.

The participants will get a considerable amount of time to research, brainstorm and present a set of resolutions that could help the non-profit organisation in a significant manner. This set of resolutions will be presented in the form of a well-researched article whose format will be provided by IDS, with a clear set of rules and guidelines. Participants would need to make sure that their proposal is practical, viable, and aligns with the objectives of the agenda and the non profit organisation. They will be judged by representative from Teach for India.

Creative Writing Contest
StoryMirror in collaboration with Author Sujay presents Just Love, a writing contest that tries to bring out the most fascinating and beautiful love tales.
What comes to your mind when you think of the word Love.

Someone may say heartache, someone may think of unrequited love.

Someone may smile, someone may hint at a sad day.

Love is a set of emotions and behaviors characterized by intimacy, passion, and commitment.

Love can vary in intensity and can change over time - in magnitude, in perspective and in depth.

There isn't anything such as true love and there isn't a false love. It is just love.

When you're in love, you're blissfully happy all the time.

Like the times, when you write a beautiful tale that is appreciated by others.

Peaceful, isn’t it?

The growing urbanization and technologies have aided our care and comfort. But let's stop and think - who builds these buildings, the bridges, the highways, skyscrapers and other landmarks?

The common daily wagers, the labourers are the actual base of the building that provides shelter to us. Yet the creators are the ones who are neglected much; they can't afford to put a roof on their own heads.

Fighting with class struggle and other hardships they have become immune to any turmoil.

StoryMirror in collaboration with Author Basant Kumar presents Only If, a writing contest that tries to bring out the most fascinating and beautiful stories and poetries connecting all readers and writers.

Covid-19 Pandemic has claimed over 35,00,000 deaths around the world. In the brutal heaviness of this pandemic, the number of infections outpaced the capacity of hospitals, assembling the frontline health workers to devote their lives for the safety and welfare of the community. Considered to be the backbone of any health system, these frontline workers have been the first line of defense during the pandemic and are still fighting it out to control and contain the virus. As a result of this ongoing battle, we have lost thousands of health workers who put their lives at stake unflinchingly to save millions of affected patients around the world.

GOETHE UPCYCLING COMPETITION

The theme for this year's World Library and Information Congress is "Working together for the future". We know that collaboration breeds innovation. Many great inventions have come from linking existing ideas. Libraries create analogue and digital spaces that bring creative people together to work on the challenges facing our societies and find solutions together. Two of these challenges are Sustainable Living and Generating Revenue for Start-ups in the Cultural and Creative Industries. Our Upcycling Competition aims to address these two themes.

Upcycling ("up" and Recycling / "Reuse") is the process of transforming waste or (apparently) useless materials into products of new value. In contrast to downcycling, this form of recycling results in the recovery of materials. By recycling or reusing existing materials, the use of raw materials can be reduced (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upcycling). By reusing and converting used materials, unusual and everyday objects will be creatively redesigned and thus upgraded or brought into a different context.

The Goethe-Instituts in the Sub-Saharan Africa Region support the creative exploration of the topic of upcycling and want to contribute to sustainability through various measures. We are therefore launching this Goethe-Upcycling Call for ideas.

Concepts and ideas for upcycling should be submitted. The selected ideas will receive financial support of up to EUR 1,000. The Goethe-Upcycling competition is open to all creative people, Librarians, Craftsmen, Artists, Designers and anyone who has a good idea that meets the competition criteria.

Fentress Global Challenge (FGC) - AIRPORT OF THE FUTURE

Fentress Architects is pleased to announce that the 2021 Fentress Global Challenge (FGC) is open for entries. Now in its 8th year, the annual international student design competition challenges students to envision a forward-thinking concept for an airport of the future, and in turn, stimulate innovative design in terminal architecture.

“The Fentress Global Challenge is a great opportunity for young designers to bring broad ideas and creative perspectives to the table while spearheading innovation in airport terminal architecture,” said FGC Founder Curtis Fentress, FAIA, RIBA. “We are excited to see how students push the limits of architectural design this year.”

This year’s competition brief encourages students to reimagine the terminal building in the year 2100, siting the new terminal at either an existing airport of their choosing, or at a location where an airport does not yet exist. The latter option calls for participants to consider a city where an airport could serve as a catalyst for economic and social development. Students’ designs must consider several aspects, including local context, evolving technologies, sustainability and resiliency, security, wellbeing, mobility, urbanization, globalization, project feasibility, and the overall passenger experience.

The First Place Winner will receive $15,000 USD—the largest prize in FGC’s history. Four additional winners will receive smaller cash prizes.
