NASA Moon to Mars Architecture Art Challenge

Have you ever imagined what it would look like for humans to explore the far reaches of our solar system, setting foot on the Moon for longer missions and, one day, even on Mars? NASA is offering artists the chance to bring those visions to life in their latest Moon to Mars Art Challenge. If you're a creative thinker with a passion for space exploration, this is your moment to shine! And with a prize pool of $10,000, there's even more reason to get those creative juices flowing.

The Challenge: A Vision for the Future of Space Exploration

NASA is inviting artists from across the globe to develop still images that reflect the agency's roadmap for deep space exploration, particularly its Moon to Mars Architecture. This challenge calls for artistic interpretations of two specific segments: Sustained Lunar Evolution and Humans to Mars.

The goal? To help the world visualize what long-term human exploration of the Moon and Mars could look like. The winning images will not only earn recognition (and prize money!) but may also be used by NASA to promote this ambitious vision for space exploration.

What to Create: Two Key Exploration Segments

NASA's Moon to Mars Architecture builds on a series of steps leading to deeper exploration. For this contest, artists are asked to focus on two of the most exciting segments:

1. Sustained Lunar Evolution

This segment is all about expanding human presence on the Moon. What does it look like to live and work on the lunar surface for extended periods? Imagine a world where astronauts stay longer, where lunar resources are harnessed to produce goods, and where international partners collaborate to create a thriving lunar economy. Your artwork should convey the excitement and innovation of this long-term vision for the Moon.

2. Humans to Mars

For the first time in history, humans will journey to Mars. But what will those early missions look like? Your creative mind can help answer that. How many astronauts are involved? What technologies are used for transportation, habitation, and survival? How does humanity begin to explore and establish a sustainable presence on the Red Planet? This segment calls for artistic interpretations of the monumental leap to Mars, showing how lessons learned from lunar missions can propel us even further.

How to Enter

Artists can submit a piece for either segment or both, and all submissions must be made through NASA’s official entry portal. The contest is open to participants of all ages and abilities, and submissions close on October 31, 2024, at 5PM ET. Make sure to read the full rules for eligibility and guidelines, especially if you're under 18 years of age or working in collaboration with others.

Important Note: AI-generated artwork and the use of trademarked materials (like logos) are not allowed in this competition.

Prizes and Recognition

While only artists 18 and older are eligible for the cash prizes, NASA will offer alternate recognition for talented young creatives who contribute to the challenge. Winning entries will be judged in November 2024, with winners notified by December 17, 2024.

This is more than just a chance to win money—it's an opportunity to play a part in the future of space exploration, inspiring others through your creative vision.

Imagine the Future, Today

So, what do you think the long-term human presence on the Moon and Mars will look like? Can you imagine how science, technology, and human ingenuity will shape these bold new worlds? Take part in this exciting artistic journey and let your imagination soar beyond Earth's horizons!

For more information, visit NASA's official page and start preparing your submission before the deadline on October 31, 2024.
