International Speech Contest for Students - Never Such Innocence

Never Such Innocence (NSI) invites young speakers from around the globe to participate in the 2024/25 Speech Competition, as part of the third year of the "Conversations on Conflict" programme. The central theme for this year is How Can We Prevent Future Wars? Participants are encouraged to explore how individuals, communities, and nations can contribute to preventing wars, reflect on lessons from history, and offer insights for our leaders.

This speech competition gives a platform for youth to share their thoughts and ideas on a global scale. Through powerful speeches, participants can help shape conversations about conflict and peace.

Key Details of the Competition:

  • Theme: How Can We Prevent Future Wars?
  • Age Categories:
    • Age 9-11
    • Age 11-14
    • Age 14-16
    • Age 16-18
The crossover of ages ensures fairness, allowing children in the same school year to compete equally. Categorisation is at NSI’s discretion based on the information provided in the entry form.

Speech Guidelines:

  • Length: Speeches must be no longer than 5 minutes, with a maximum of 750 words.
  • Originality: The speech must be the contestant's own work and should not infringe upon any copyrights or the rights of third parties. Speeches created using AI will not be accepted.
  • Language: Speeches may be written in any language.
  • Format: The speech should be either typed or legibly handwritten.
  • Submission: Contestants must submit both a video or audio recording of their speech along with the written text.

Submission Process:

  • Entry Fee: There is no entry fee to participate.
  • Multiple Entries: Participants may submit work to more than one category (for example, one speech and one piece of art), but only one entry per category is allowed.
  • Judging: All submissions will be anonymised using a unique entry number to ensure fairness in the judging process. Only the title should appear on the entry, while all other details should be provided on the entry form.

Timeline:

  • Competition Opens: 20th September 2024
  • Competition Deadline: 28th February 2025
  • Winners Notified By: 1st May 2025

For entrants aged 15 and under, submissions must be made by an adult (such as a parent, guardian, or teacher) on behalf of the participant. Adults submitting entries will need to agree to the competition rules by checking a box on the online or physical entry form.

This speech competition is a fantastic opportunity for young people to make their voices heard on a global platform, sharing ideas on how we can build a more peaceful world. NSI encourages participants from all over the world to take part, express their creativity, and engage in this important discussion.
