Enter the WMO 2025 Calendar Photography Competition

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is thrilled to announce the launch of its highly anticipated 2025 Calendar Photography Competition. As we approach the 75th anniversary of WMO and World Meteorological Day 2025 with its theme “Closing the Early Warning Gap Together,” we invite photographers from around the globe to participate and showcase their stunning images related to weather, climate, and water.

Competition Overview:

This year’s competition focuses on the Early Warnings for All initiative, emphasizing the critical role of early warning systems in safeguarding communities from hazardous weather, water, and climate events. We are looking for high-quality photographs that capture:

• People and Communities: Working together to ensure universal protection through life-saving early warning systems.
• The Power of Nature: Illustrating the beauty and strength of natural phenomena.
• Environmental Protection: Highlighting the need to protect our planet from the impacts of human activities.

How to Enter:

1. Theme and Content: Your photo should align with the theme of early warnings, weather, climate, or water. It should capture the essence of WMO’s mission and the importance of environmental protection.
2. Submission Guidelines:
   • Photos must be a minimum size of 4000 x 3000 pixels.
   • Submit in JPEG or TIFF format with minimal compression.
   • Photos must be in landscape (horizontal) format.
   • Both color and black-and-white photos are accepted.
   • Include a clear caption with a title, location, and date of the photograph.
3. Entry Form: Use the dedicated Entry Form to submit your photograph. Multiple entries are allowed, but only one photo will be selected for the final calendar.
4. Social Media: Share your photos on social media with the hashtag #WMOphoto for additional visibility.

The Contest is open to all individuals and groups, regardless of age or location.

Judging and Selection:

• Initial Selection: WMO’s panel of experts and professional photographers will narrow down the entries based on technical quality, visual impact, novelty, and relevance to the theme.
• Public Voting: Shortlisted photos will be published on WMO’s Facebook, Instagram, and Flickr pages, allowing followers to vote for their favorites.
• Final Selection: The WMO jury will choose the final 13 photographs for the calendar (one cover and one for each month), considering both social media votes and geographical balance.

Recognition:

While there is no cash prize, winning photographs will gain substantial exposure:

• Featured in the WMO 2025 Calendar.
• Showcased on WMO’s website, social media platforms, and public outreach products.
• Promoted among other U.N. agencies.

Important Dates:

• Submission Deadline: 1 September 2024
• No Cash Prize: Please note that no financial rewards are offered, but winners receive significant recognition and exposure.
