Design Competition for Iconic Structure in Nav Bharat Udyan (New India Garden), New Delhi


The Central Vista in the heart of New Delhi extends from Rashtrapati Bhawan to India Gate. The Central Vista Master Plan envisages developing / redeveloping this area as a world class public space, restoring its grandeur as an architectural icon, housing modern facilities for efficient functioning of administration, strengthening cultural institutions and commemorating 75th year of Indian independence.

Under the Master Plan, the Central Vista Axis will be visually integrated from the present 2.9 km to 6.3 km from ridge to river. On the eastern side, it will culminate at the western bank of River Yamuna.

Spread over 20.22 acres, Nav Bharat Udyan will be open to the public and is being designed to have an iconic structure and infotainment facilities such as Sphere of Unity, Milestones Walkway, Journey of India, Tech Dome, Amphitheatre, public amenities etc. to showcase India’s rich historical and cultural heritage, scientific achievements, and will symbolize unity in diversity and aspirations of the New India.
Design Competition

A time bound competition is being organized to crowd-source implementable ideas for the conceptual architectural and structural design of the iconic structure, in accordance with the guiding principles and constraints given on the website.

Who can Participate?

The competition is open to Indian citizens / organisations only. It will include architects, architectural firms, students, student groups, architectural or planning schools / colleges and other institutions across India, or any combination of the above.

Organizer

Central Public Works Department, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India.

Prizes

First prize: ₹ 5,00,000.

Five commendation prizes: ₹ 1,00,000 each.

If design elements from various entries are selected, the prize money shall be equitably distributed to all the concerned participants.

All the selected entries will be duly recognised.


Timelines

Announcement of design competition: 12th November, 2020.

Webinar for explaining salient features: 17th November, 2020 at 1100 hrs.

Registration opens: 17th November, 2020.

Registration closes: 11th December, 2020 at 1700 hrs.

Last date to submit design: 11th December, 2020 at 1900 hrs.

Presentations before the jury (if required): 2nd fortnight of December, 2020.

Winners announcement: Last week of December, 2020.


Submission Requirements

All the entries should be submitted online.

Design brief explaining the proposal should be given in maximum 500 words.

Design with dimensions should be submitted on A1 size sheet in AutoCAD (maximum file size not more than 5 MB) in landscape orientation (maximum 2 sheets).

Walkthrough video of maximum duration of 30 seconds (maximum file size not more than 50 MB).

Lighting and such other elements may be included.

Preliminary structural details of foundation, materials and construction methodology of the iconic structure should be submitted on one A1 size sheet in AutoCAD (maximum file size not more than 5 MB) in landscape orientation.
