SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME II ― FOR 1500 DIFFERENTLY ABLED STUDENTS

National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation (NHFDC), for and on behalf of Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India, invites applications from Students with Disabilities for award of Scholarships under the Scholarship Scheme (Trust Fund) :-

1.	Objective:
1.1	The objective of the Scheme is to provide financial assistance to the differently-abled students to enable them to pursue professional or technical courses from recognized institutes and get employed/self-employed.
1.2	Differently-abled students face several barriers physical, financial, psychological, mental in pursuing studies and living with dignity. At times such students are deprived of harnessing their latent skills and thereby miss the opportunity to earn their livelihood and find a dignified place for themselves in the society. This scheme envisages encouraging differently-abled students by providing scholarships and other assistance to pursue professional or technical courses and various skill development courses for their empowerment.
2.	Number of Scholarships:
2.1	To start with every year 1500 scholarships will be provided to the differently-abled students throughout the country. 30% scholarships will be reserved for girls, which will be transferable to male students in case of non-availability of female candidates.
3.	Scope:
3.1	These scholarships will be available for studies in India, for all differently-abled students who are covered under the Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunity, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995 and the National Trust for the Welfare of Persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities Act, 1999. Only Indian Nationals will be eligible for scholarships.
4.	Rate of Scholarship and other benefits under the scheme:
4.1	The following benefits will be available under the scheme:-
(i)	Non-refundable fees shall be fully awarded in case of Government/Government-aided institution. In case of private Institutes the reimbursement would be restricted to similar courses in Government/Government-aided institutions.
(ii)	Maintenance allowance will be paid to the students for a period of 10 months only in one academic year at following rates.

5	Implementation of the Scheme
5.1	Conditions for Scholarship:
i)	Financial assistance will be given to pursue degree and/or post graduate level technical and professional courses from a recognized institution. Maintenance, book/stationary allowance and grant for purchase of assistive devices will be credited to the student's account. Non-refundable fees shall be reimbursed to the student on production of proof of deposit of fees or will be paid directly to the Institute under intimation to the student.
ii)	Scholarship will be awarded for only one course at a time.
iii)	Students who get admission to a college to pursue technical/professional courses, on the basis of a competitive examination will be eligible for the scholarship without any consideration of percentage of marks at higher secondary/graduation level.
iv)	Students who get admission in technical/professional courses without facing any competitive examination will also be eligible for scholarship. However, such students should have not less than 50% marks at higher secondary/graduation level. Selection of these students will be done strictly on merit basis.
v)	Students who pursue their education through correspondence would also be eligible for the scholarship.
vi)	Continuation of the scholarship in subsequent years will be automatic subject to successful completion of the course during the preceding year. However, grace period of one year shall be admissible for the entire course in specified categories.
vii)	A candidate who is awarded scholarship for one course, after its completion will be eligible for another course too. However, the awardees will not be eligible for a similar or equivalent course.
viii)	A scholarship holder under this Scheme will not avail any other scholarship/stipend for pursuing the course.
ix)	The annual income of the beneficiary/parent or guardian of beneficiary should not exceed Rs. 3.00 lakh from all sources. However, preference shall be given to economically weaker students.
5.2	Other Conditions for the Scholarship:
i)	The scholarship is depended on the satisfactory progress and conduct of the scholar. If it is reported by the head of the Institution at any time that a scholar has by reasons of his/her own act of default failed to make satisfactory progress or has been guilty of misconduct such as resorting to or participating in strikes, irregularity in attendance without the permission of the authorities concerned etc., the authority sanctioning the scholarship may either cancel the scholarship or stop or withhold further payment for such period as it may think fit.
ii)	If a student is found to have obtained a scholarship by false statement, his/her scholarship will be cancelled forthwith and the amount of the scholarship paid will be recovered. The student concerned will be blacklisted and debarred for scholarship in any scheme forever.
iii)	A scholarship awarded may be cancelled if the scholar changes the subject of the course of study for which the scholarship was originally awarded or changes the Institution of study without prior approval of the Government. The amount already paid may also be recovered at the discretion of the Government.
iv)	A scholar is liable to refund the scholarship amount at the discretion of the Government if during the course of the year, the studies for which the scholarship has been awarded, is discontinued by him/her.
v)	A scholar is liable to refund the scholarship amount at the discretion of the Government if during the course of the year, the studies for which the scholarship has been awarded, is disconScholarship will not be paid for the period of internship/housemanship in the M.B.B.S. course or for a practical training in any course, if the student is in receipt of some remuneration during the internship period or some allowance/stipend during the practical training in any course.inued by him/her.
vi)	The conditions can be changed at anytime at the discretion of the Government of India.
6.	Publicity of the Scheme
	The Scheme will be given wide publicity over print and electronic media. Assistance of State Governments and other agencies such as UGC, Universities and prominent colleges and institutions will also be sought in giving publicity to the Scheme.
7.	Procedure for application
7.1	Application in enclosed prescribed format shall be submitted at any time during an academic year to the assigned agency(i.e. National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation,Red Cross Bhawan, Sector-12,Faridabad,Haryana-121007). An advance copy of the application should also be submitted on line(NHFDC website - www.nhfdc.nic.in). Each applicant shall be given a registration number on receipt of the application. The screening committee shall examine these applications quarterly and the scholarship amount will be disbursed.
7.2	Renewal of the scholarship is automatic in next year subject to successful completion of the course in the previous year. However, in case of students with cerebral palsy, mental retardation, mental illness, multiple disabilities and profound server hearing impairment, one year grace period may be allowed.
7.3	Along with the application the following enclosures will have to be furnished:
i)	Academic record – attested copies of relevant certificates/mark sheets for the qualifying examination.
ii)	Proof of annual income - Proof of income shall include last salary slip of parent/guardian, acknowledgement of income tax/income certificate e from revenue official/gazetted officer/public representative e.g. MP, MLA, MLC, Panchayat officials etc.;
iii)	Attested copy of Disability certificate;
iv)	Course fee receipt if any, duly paid during the academic session;
V)	Receipt/Invoice of eligible assistive devices duly countersigned by the authorized signatory of the institution;
vi)	In case of continuation of scholarship in a succeeding year, a copy of the mark sheet of the preceding year.
8.	Processing of applications
(a)	The procedure for processing of applications will be outsourced to a reputed agency;
(b)	All the applications will be processed in a time bound manner;
(c)	The applications scrutinized by the authorized agency shall be placed  before a screening committee periodically for final award of scholarships;
(d)	Income certificate is to be submitted by the student only once i.e. at the time of sanction of scholarship,

PROBLEM-1
Jack is a man on a mission. He carries a pocket full of change consisting of 5, 10, 20 and 50 paise coins, and whenever he has to pay any amount, he will choose his change so that he uses the minimum number of coins possible. This is because he feels that it is his life’s destiny to carry a lot of change everywhere and would like to spend as few of them as possible.
Given 5, 10, 20 and 50 paise coins in his pocket, your task is to write a program to work out the number of coins of each denomination and the total number of coins used, such that the total number is the minimum that he can use. Note that Jack won’t be able to pay any arbitrary amount of money. For example, if something costs Rs 2.35 and he does not have enough change, he won’t be able to pay this amount.

Input
The input file is named in1.dat. The first line of the input file contains N (N<=10), determines the number of inputs. The second line consists of a single line of numbers, where the first four represent the number of coins with denominations of 5, 10, 20 and 50 paise coins respectively, and the fifth number is an integer representing the amount that Jack has to pay, in paise.

Note: The number that represent the denomination of any type would be smaller than 1, 000, 000 while the amount that is to be paid is smaller than 100, 000, 000 paise.
Example 1: If he has two coins of each type ( 5,10,20,50) and he needs to pay 35 paise, the input would be: 2 2 2 2 35
Example 2: If he has three 5-paise coins, two 10-paise coins and four 50-paise coins, and has to pay Rs 5.35 (or 535 paise), then the input would be: 3 2 0 4 535

Output
The output file is named out1.dat. Your program should output the number of each type of coin that Jack should spend, as well as the total number of coins. Again this total should be a minimum so that Jack can retain as many coins as possible. And your program should output “−1” to indicate if he doesn’t have enough to pay up this amount.

You are provided with four sets of integers. Your task consists of selecting one integer from each set, such that their sum is 0. You can assume that exactly one such selection exists.

The first line of the input file contains N (N<=10), the second line of input file contains four numbers, a, b, c, and d, separated by a space character, indicating the number of elements in each of the four sets. Each of these numbers is a positive integer 1 ≤ a, b, c, d ≤ 500. The following a + b + c + d lines contain the elements, each not smaller than −10000 and not larger than 10000. The elements of the first set are listed first, followed by the elements of the second set, etc.

The coach of Sumista, Regional swimmer for India, is concerned about her Butterfly stroke. He records her daily timing in milliseconds (a millisecond is one thousand of a second) and devises a scheme whereby each time she achieves a timing that is lower than the previous day’s timing by at least a certain number of milliseconds, he will reward her with a gift. Given a list of daily timings, determine how many gifts Sumista would have received.

Input
The input file is named in3.dat. The first line contains 2 integers n and k, where n (3 ≤ n ≤ 100) is the number of days, and k (0 < k ≤ 100,000) the desired improvement (in milliseconds). Whenever Sumista’s timing reduces by at least k milliseconds over the previous day’s timing, she will receive a gift from her coach. The first line is then followed by n lines where each line contains a single integer t (0 < t ≤ 100,000) which is Sumista’s daily timing in milliseconds. The n timing records are listed in chronological order.

The output file is named out2.dat. The output file consists of a single integer that indicates the number of gifts Sumista would have received.

PROBLEM – 4
The King of Pallava has a horse which is kept in one of the royal ranches (fields) to graze.
Every time the King wishes to ride his horse, he will order his servants to fetch the horse. However, the King is an impatient man and if his servants take too long to fetch the horse, he will grow angry and punish the servants severely. Also, as the horse like a certain food and if it passes a ranch with those food inside, it will refuse to move for a certain amount of time and hence it will add to the time the servant needs to take to bring the horse to the King.

All the 10 King’s royal ranches are arranged in a single row as shown below. The entrance to the ranches is at the left hand side indicated as A. Assume that it takes 1 minute to move from the entrance to the first ranch and 1 minute from one ranch to the next. If the food that the horse likes in a ranch, the horse will stay there for 2 minutes.
A servant is extremely fearful about the punishment and he knows that you are a brilliant
programmer. So he asks you to write a program to help him arrange his duties such that
he will only be on duty when the horse is kept in a ranch such that no matter where the horse is, the servant will always be able to fetch the horse in time.

Input
The input file is named in4.dat. The first line of the input file contains N (N<=10), the second line of input file contains T, time in minutes before the King grows impatient. Each character in the third line indicates what is in each ranch. “X” indicates the food that the horse likes is in that ranch, “O” denotes an empty ranch and “H” indicates the ranch where the horse is found. The servant must start from the entrance (A) of the ranch and fetch the horse within T minutes. That is, he must be able to reach the ranch where the horse is found and be back at A using no more than T minutes. Note that there may be more than one “X” in the sequence.

Output
The output file is named out4.dat. The output file consists of “YES – Total time is t” if the servant should arrange his duty on that day or “NO – Total time is t” if he should not. “YES” and “NO” must be all uppercase. t is the total time needed by the servant starting at the entrance, goes to the ranch where the horse is found and brings it back to the entrance.

16th KVS Junior Mathematical Olympiad

Mathematics Olympiad is organised at State, Regional, National, and International levels. This is organised by National Board for Higher Mathematics since 1988 and is conducted in three stages - Regional Mathematics Olympiad(RMO), Indian National Mathematics Olympiad (INMO) and then and International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (IMOTC). IMOTC selects six best students to represent India in International Mathematics Olympiad(IMO).
KVS is conducting its own Mathematical Olympiad programme in two phases. Junior Mathematical Olympiad (JMO) and Regional Mathematics Olympiad (KVS-RMO). After screening the students by JMO, about top 100 students trained and tested by RMO. Top 30 students from RMO will then participate in INMO conducted by NBHM.

Eligibility Criteria
A student studying in Class X who secured A2 or higher grade in Mathematics in Class IX and
A student studying in Class  XI with mathematics as an elective subject (irrespective of the stream opted) who secured A2 higher grade in Mathematics in Class X examination can appear.
A student studying in Class XII with Mathematics as an elective subject who secured 80% and above marks in Class XI in Mathematics can also appear

Note: There will be a common question paper for all the participants

Syllabus
The syllabus for Mathematical Olympiad (regional, national and international) is pre-degree college Mathematics. The areas covered are arithmetic of integers, geometry, quadratic equations and expressions, trigonometry, co-ordinate geometry, system of linear equations, permutations and combinations, factorization of polynomials, inequalities, elementary combinatorics, probability theory and number theory, finite series and complex numbers and elementary graph theory. The syllabus does not include calculus and statistics. The major areas from which problems are given are number theory, geometry, algebra and combinatorics. The syllabus is in a sense spread over class XI to class XII levels, but the problems under each topic involve high level of difficulty and sophistication. The difficulty level increase from JOM-RMO-INMO-IMO.

CSI Young Talent Search in Computer Programming - Selection of teams to represent India at SEARCC (South East Asia Regional Computer Confederation) International Schools’ Software Competition - 2013

1. Computer Society of India conducts a National level School Students Software Competition every year. The winners will represent the country in the SEARCC International Schools’ Software Competitions as per details given below.

2. Objective : To bring out problem solving and programming talents in school students, with speed, accuracy and team co-ordination, in a competitive environment and motivate them with due recognition, besides attractive prizes and certificates.

3. Eligibility :

3.1 It is a team based competition. Each team will consist of 3 students. All team members of school teams must be full-time students with age of 18 years or under, i.e. born on or after 1st January 1995.

3.2 A school can register only one team.

4. Format:

4.1 The competition will be of two (2) hours duration, consisting of 4 problems using ONE of the Programming languages, viz., C or C++ or Java. It is to test the problem solving ability using a computer programming language. The teams will be selected on the basis of correct outputs and speed of submission of solutions to problems.

4.2 A first level Regional Competition is scheduled on Sunday the 28th July 2013 and will be held in 19 centres as per details given below. Depending on response of teams, more centres can be added as appropriate. Please indicate your choice of the city. However, if the number of teams is very less in a city, we shall allocate the nearest centre with sufficient notice to you. Expenses for taking part in first level regional competition will have to be borne by the teams or schools themselves.

5. Participation in SEARCC International Schools’ Software Competitions : The top two teams at the National level will represent India at the SEARCC International Schools’ Software Competition 2013 (ISSC 2013) to be held at Colombo, Sri Lanka between 24th and 27th October 2013.

The National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement was instituted in 1996 to give recognition to the children with exceptional abilities and who have achieved outstanding status in various fields including academics, arts, culture and sports etc.. Children between the age of 4 to 15 years who have shown an exceptional achievement in any field including academics, arts, culture and sports etc. are eligible for this award. One Gold Medal and 35 silver Medals (one for each State/UT) are to be given annually

NASA Exploration Design Challenge

NASA and Lockheed Martin launch Exploration Design Challenge targeted at K-12 students

The challenge will allow K-12 students to examine different materials that simulate space radiation shielding for Orion, participate in teacher-guided activities and recommend the best materials to protect astronauts from radiation.

High school students can take the challenge farther by designing shielding to protect a sensor inside Orion from space radiation.  The winning design will fly aboard the Orion capsule during Exploration Flight Test-1 (EFT-1) set for September 2014.

About the Challenge

The goal of the Exploration Design Challenge is for students to research and design ways to protect astronauts from space radiation. NASA and Lockheed Martin are developing the Orion spacecraft that will carry astronauts beyond low Earth orbit and on to an asteroid or Mars. Protecting astronauts from radiation on these distant travels is an important -- and very real -- problem that needs solving. NASA would like your help!

All students that participate in this challenge can join other participants from around the world to celebrate the Exploration Flight Test-1 of Orion by having their names flown on board as honorary crew members. The deadline to register students for the virtual crew is March 14, 2014.

This year, the World Quizzing Championships will take place on Saturday 1 June.  The event is open to anyone who would like to  participate - no age or educational qualification restrictions. The World Quizzing Championships itself is a written test that is sat simultaneously around the world. It consists of 240 questions (about two hours) across a wide variety of subjects and is available in a number of languages.

CBSE Science Exhibition-2013

The CBSE Science Exhibition 2013 is scheduled to be organised in different parts of the country at Regional level in the month of July/August and atNational Level in the month of September/October,2013.


The main theme and sub-themes for this year’s exhibition are:
Main Theme: Science and Society
Sub-themes: The six sub-themes are:
Industry
Natural resources and their Conservation
Transport and Communication
Information and Education Technology
Community Health and Environment and 
Mathematical Modelling. 


Key aspects of the exhibition
How to register:
(i) Every participating school will pay a participation fee of Rs.500/- in the form of a demand draft in favour of Regional Officer, CBSE payable at respective regional office city.
(ii) The request for participation alongwith the enclosed registration form and fee is to be  sent directly to the Respective Regional Officer and not to Headquarters Delhi.
(iii) The schools in Delhi region may send it to the Regional officer, Central Board of Secondary Education, PS-1-2, Insitutional Area, I.P. Extension, Patparganj, Delhi-110 092
(iv) The last date for registration for participation in the event is June 15,2013.
Rules for Participation:
(v) The participating school can put up a maximum of two exhibits/projects/models.
(vi) A school team may be represented by a maximum of two students per exhibit and one escort Science Teacher.
(vii) School team participating at regional level and National level must remain the same.
(viii) The exhibit/project displayed and selected at regional level should be based on theme and sub theme selected.
(ix) Schools may rework on exhibit / project shortlisted at regional level for its display at national level. However they are not allowed to change the theme or sub theme of the selected / shortlisted exhibit.
(x) The participating school/team will have to bear all expenses related to participation in the event.
(xi) The participating teams will have to make their own lodging/boarding arrangements at the venue city of exhibition.
How to prepare Models/ Projects:
(xii) The exhibit/model may be either
(a) A working model
(b) An investigation-based project
(xiii) The exhibit/project may include working model to explain a concept, principle or a process an indigenous design of a machine/device
an innovative/inexpensive design or technique application of basic principles of Science/Technology
Scheme/design of a device or machine to reduce production cost Investigation based study
(xiv) Greater emphasis may be given to investigation-based innovative projects to kindle scientific method and scientific approach in the students.
(xv) A brief write-up about the main-theme and sub-themes is enclosed for reference. The participating teams may prepare the exhibits/projects on any one of the sub-themes satisfying one or more of the stated parameters.
(xvi) It is mandatory to submit a neatly typed brief write up (approximately 100 words) about the exhibit at regional as well as national level at the time of registration.
(xvii) The exhibits/projects will be assessed by the experts as per the following criteria:
a. Students’ own creativity and imagination 20%
b. Originality and innovativeness in design of the exhibit/project 15%
c. Scientific thought/principle 15%
d. Technical skill/workmanship/craftsmanship 15%
e. Utility/educational value 15%
f. Economic aspect, portability, durability 10%
g. Presentation -Explanation and demonstration 10%
General Guidelines:
(xviii) The first stage of exhibition will be held at two/three different venues in every region.
(xix) The selected best fifteen exhibits/ schools at every regional level venue will be eligible to participate in the National level exhibition.
(xx) The actual dates for the regional level exhibition will be communicated through the Regional officers to every school as well as through CBSE website www.cbse.nic.in by July 15,2013.
(xxi) Attractive awards/cash prizes are given to exhibits/students who present the best twenty models at the national level.

Innovation Forum: Earth Day 2013 - Competition by TERI and Sanjay Dutt Production

TERI is producing a feature film in association with Sanjay Dutt Production. The film will focus on inventions made by common man to enhance their standard of living and to optimally utilize the scarce resources. Against this background and as a run up to the Earth Day 2013, the Educating Youth for Sustainable Development Division at TERI launches a school competition called “Innovation Forum” a joint association of TERI and Sanjay Dutt Production, which aims at inviting interesting and out of the box innovative ideas that can be used in the feature film.

The competition will be open from 01 – 20 April 2013

Winners will be chosen by the esteemed panel of judges including the Director of this Film. The inventions used in the film will also be given due credit and the winners will be felicitated before the launch of the film. Completed entries can be forwarded to TERI by e-mail, fax or by post before due date, and the participants will get certificate of participation.

Instructions for the ‘Innovation Forum’ competition

Please read the instructions below, before appearing for the “Innovation Forum” competition:
The Competition is divided into two categories; you can choose anyone of the following.

DO NOT forget to mention the category you have chosen in your answer sheets.
i) Innovative ideas that can be asset to our day-to-day life, at home, etc.
ii) Innovative ideas that help the neighborhood

The Innovation forum competition is conducted at two levels:
i) Level 1: Classes 6-8: Students are expected to write 500 words on any
one of the category chosen above
ii) Level 2: Classes 9-12: Students are expected to write 1000 words on any one of the category chosen above

The body of your write up should be able to answers the following questions:
 What are the invention/ innovative idea?
 Who all will be the primary users of the invention?
 What does the invention do?
 Where will the invention be used?
 When can one use this invention?
 Why is this invention important?
 How does one exactly use the invention?

Please think out of the box, creative and wacky ideas that can help in effective utilization of scarce resource. Run of the mill stuff will not be accepted.

Max Life Insurance – igenius Young Authors' Hunt

The igenius Young Authors’ Hunt is open for all children between ages 8-15, studying in government recognized schools including private, public or national open schools all over India. There are 2 categories: Juniors (Age 8-12 years) & Seniors (Age 12-15 years). Children of Max Life Insurance Employees and Agent advisors who qualify as per the criteria above are also eligible to participate in the Young Authors' Hunt.

The programme duration is from January 14, 2013 till November 31, 2013.

Last Date for Registration: The registration for the igenius Junior and Senior programme excluding school contact programme will be open from 10 am on January 14, 2013 to midnight on April 30, 2013. Entries received after the closing of the registration period shall not be considered and the same will be invalid. The Creative Writing Submissions (Essay/ Short Story) will start from 10 am on January 24, 2013 and will continue till midnight on May 20, 2013.


No participation or any other fee is required to be paid for participating in the programme.

Categories
There are two categories (i) igenius Junior: ages 8-12 years (ii) igenius Senior: ages 12-15 years. The category to which the participant will belong will be determined by the Date of Birth of the participant.

Rounds


Round 1(Registration and creative writing submissions)
The registration for the igenius Junior and Senior programme excluding school contact programme will be open from 10 am on January 14, 2013 to midnight on April 30, 2013.

The Creative Writing Submissions (Essay/ Short Story) will start from 10 am on January 24, 2013 and will continue till midnight on May 20, 2013.

Round 2(On the spot creative writing)
Those short-listed participants from Round 1 across all media will have to appear for Round 2 Creative Writing Submission in July 2013. They will have to appear in person at pre-defined venues at cities mandated by MAX LIFE at their own expense. The details and the schedule for same shall be informed to the participants. Those qualifying would also be required to provide the proof of their academic credentials.

Round 3(Grand Finale)
Shortlisted participants qualifying for Round 3 will have to take part in the Grand Finale in September 2013. The reasonable costs of travel, boarding and lodging of the participant and one parent/ guardian of such participant for Round 3 will be borne by MAX LIFE .
