Nirma Robocup 2019: National Level Robotic Contest for School Students

The mission of Nirma RoboCup 2019 is to overcome hurdles in the path to success through proper planning, hard work, confidence and teamwork. This year’s theme draws inspiration from Lord Krishna – who was very fond of butter. He used to gather all his friends, make a team, prepare a human pyramid to reach the hanging butter pot and break it using his flute to fetch the yummy butter. This demonstrates that great teamwork, proper planning, hard-work coupled with confidence leads to success. Based on this concept, the theme of Nirma RoboCup is designed to promote the notion of- “Planning, Hard-work and Confidence are key to Success”.

Overview of the Game
The game will be played on a game field of 7 mtr X 7 mtr. The entire field is divided in two zones namely ‘RED’ zone and ‘BLUE’ zone. Each zone of the game field has five zones 1) ‘MATHURA’, 2) ‘GOKUL’, 3) ‘VRINDAVAN’ , 4) ‘BARASNA’ and 5) ‘BARASANA HILL’. Please refer Fig.1 for details.

The match will be held between a RED team in RED zone and a BLUE team in BLUE zone. Each match can last no longer than five minutes (after which the scores will be counted and the winner will be announced). Each team will have either a manual or an automatic robot. The robot will be designed to carry a long stick symbolizing the flute of Lord Krishna. The robot will have to start from the START zone named as ‘MATHURA’. It will follow the path on the game field in the respective RED or BLUE zones. At the end of the ‘MATHURA’ zone a butter cube will be found. The robot will have to push the butter cube from the path to the ‘FRIEND’ zone. After knocking down the butter cube from the path, the robot will enter the ‘GOKUL’ zone and will continue to follow the path until another butter cube is found. Just as before, knocking down the second butter cube from the path to FRIEND zone, the robot will reach to ‘VRINDAVAN’ zone. Moving ahead on the path, the robot will reach near a ‘TREE’ with a small butter pot placed on it. The robot will have to knock out the butter pot from the top of the ‘TREE’ to FRIEND zone and will enter the next zone called ‘BARSANA’ zone. After reaching ‘BARSANA’, the Robot will climb the slope to reach the hanging butter pot placed over ‘BARSANA HILL’. For completion of the game the robot will touch the hanging butter pot TWICE with the stick. The team which accomplishes the above task first will be the winner of the game and will be declared ‘GOVINDA’.

Points will be awarded at every successful passing of a zone. The team will be awarded 10, 20 and 30 points respectively for successfully manoeuvring to ‘MATHURA’, ‘GOKUL’ and ‘VRINDAVAN’ zones. Reaching at the top of the ‘BARASAN HILL’ will earn 40 points. Each strike at the hanging butter pot will gain 50 points (Robot can touch the hanging butter pot a maximum of two times). If neither of the teams can complete the game in given time, the points earned will decide the winner
