S M Shetty International School and Jr College. Our very own literature festival: LIT-O-MANIA - Edition 4 is back, albeit on a virtual platform. The theme for this year is HOPE...HELP...HEAL. Since the pandemic, students, across the world, have faced several life-changing experiences and have not ventured outside home for a major part of the year. We, thus, intend to use this extraordinary situation to infuse Hope, extend Help and attempt to Heal through the very interesting, fun-filled and creative competitions that we have curated for this year.
LIT-O-MANIA celebrates the indomitable human spirit, that held ground amidst the pandemic. Literature has always paid tribute to human emotions and actions of - Hope, Help and Heal through various masterpieces like The Alchemist, To Kill a Mocking Bird, Jane Eyre, Animal Farm, The Kite Runner, Great Expectations to name a few. In view of the theme for this year, we have dedicated each of our events to a personality who has touched the lives of several generations through her/his contribution to the society.

General rules and regulations:
1. There is no participation fee.
2. Each student can participate in only one event.
3. Last date for registration is 15th February 2022.
4. The competitions will be held on the Google Meet platform. The Google meet links will be shared with the registered schools.
5. Participants need to join the meeting using the link at least ten minutes before the start time.
6. Participants need to keep their camera on at all times and microphone on mute if/when not required.
7. The decision of the judges will be final and binding.
8. E-certificates will be given to each student for participation and winners will get E-certificate of Merit.
9. Specific rules and regulations for individual events are detailed separately.
10. Scoring: Points from all the events will be added to the school’s final score.
The school receiving the highest points will be the winner of the LIT-O-MANIA trophy. The trophy will be sent to the school physically.
11. The announcement of the school winning the LIT-O-MANIA trophy will be done in the closing ceremony.

Event 1: Rhymes and Tickles (Recitation Competition)
(We dedicate this event to the all-time great – Charlie Chaplin who rightly said, “A day without laughter, is a day wasted”)
Event description: Participants will recite humorous poems.
Eligibility: Grades 5 and 6
Event 2: Mind over Matter (Elocution Competition)
(We dedicate this event to the King - Martin Luther King who lived by the motto - Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that)
Event description: Participants will speak on any one of the given topics:
1. Hope and fear in the online world
2. Self-help is the best help.
3. Things that heal us
4. Hope, Help, Heal
Eligibility: Grade 8, 9 and 10
Event 3: Just a Minute (Extempore)
(We dedicate this event to the great Orator - Swami Vivekananda whose slogan, “Arise, Awake and Stop not till the goal is reached has always been a driving force for the youth”)
Event description: Participants will speak on a topic which will be given to them 15 minutes prior to the event.
Eligibility: Grade 8 and 9
Event 4: Words have Worth (Quiz)
(We dedicate this event to the all-time favourite poet – William Wordsworth whose words have had a deep impact on all of us)
Event description: Each team representing the school will have two members. One of the students should be from grade 7 and the other from grade 8.

Event 5: Funny yet Important (Humorous skit with a social message)
(We dedicate this event to – R K Narayan whose humour and work has been a part of our childhood)
Event description: It is a team event. Participants will perform on a humorous script which also gives a social message
Eligibility: Grade 6, 7, 8 and 9
Event 6: Mono Mania (Monologue Competition)
(We dedicate this event to the Bard - William Shakespeare. His work is a legacy for all of us to read and learn from)
Event description: Participants will perform on a monologue of any literary character.
Eligibility: Grade 8 and 9
Event 7: War of Words (Debate Competition)
(We dedicate this event to the politicians of the world who debate, argue and conclude (sometimes) on anything and everything that can be debated on)
Event description: Participants will debate for or against a topic which will be provided on the spot. Students will be given 15 mins to prepare. There will be several rounds depending on the number of participating schools till two teams reach the finals. There will be one team (of two students) per school
Eligibility: Grade 9 or 10
Event 8: Sketch-O-Mania (Comic strip making – Creating a comic strip with a caption that is witty and sarcastic but not venomous)
(We dedicate this event to the favourite Common Man – R K Laxman, whose illustrations we have all grown up on)
Event description: Participants will create a comic strip (Single illustration) using the theme given on the spot. Students will create the comic strip on a blank A4 size paper using only Black HB pencil within a duration of 30 minutes. The comic strip should include a witty caption/message. After completing the comic strip, the students will click a picture and email it to the given mail address. They will then get 2 minutes to explain their comic strip.
Eligibility: Grade 8 and 9
Event 9: Poemania
(We dedicate this event to Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore whose prose and poems have inspired generations together)
Event description: This competition is for teachers. Teachers will write a poem on the theme given on the spot within the duration of 30 minutes. Teachers will email the poem to the given mail address.
Eligibility: Teachers only
Event 10: May I Comment
(We dedicate this event to the one and only Amitabh Bachchan whose baritone voice has provided the background voice for many a plays and movies)
Event description: Each student will be shown a video clip without sound. The participant will watch the video and plan a commentary for what he or she sees. When the video is played for the 2nd time, the participants will narrate their dialogues along with the video clip. The dialogues need not match the original dialogues of the video. Students can be very creative and make an interesting narration.
Eligibility: Grade 8 & 9
Event 11: Old is Gold (Changing a classic story into a Contemporary one and narrating the same)
(We dedicate this event Rudyard Kipling - who is remembered for his stories and poems for children)
Event description: Each group will be assigned a classic story (Script will be given on the spot) and given one hour to change the classic story into a contemporary one with the same story line. They will then narrate the contemporary story as a playscript with sound effects in the background if required. They may turn the story to be funny or emotional or sad.
