Addressing the nation on the 73rd Independence Day, the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India laid out the vision of building a $5 trillion economy. To achieve this vision, the government intends to invest Rs 100 lakh crore to develop modern infrastructure in India. However, there are multiple challenges to infrastructure development in India.
One aspect which needs attention is the adoption of modern program/project management practices. India is in the transformative phase and there is a growing demand for highly qualified program/project management professionals to manage these programs and implement them successfully.
NITI Aayog seeks to create a world-class national institution for Program/Project Managers in India, that will enable infrastructure development in order to unlock the true potential of the infrastructure industry in India by institutionalising Chartered Program/Project Managers, on the lines of Chartered Accountants, especially for infrastructure projects.
The institution, with a working title “National Institute of Chartered Program and Project Professionals (NICPP)” will be established as the premier Program/Project Management body in India and bring about radical reforms in the way infrastructure projects are executed.
NICPP shall develop, promote, and regulate profession and practice of Program/Project Management in India focusing on large infrastructure projects. Acting as a custodian of best practices performed across government and industry, it shall create the ecosystem for certification of Program/Project Management professionals.
NITI Aayog has also decided to suitably name the institution by calling for entries from the citizens of the country. The name should reflect the transformative role of world-class infrastructure in achieving the aspirations of New India.
The Winning Name will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/-
