The Indian School Debating Society (ISDS) is selecting students for the 2025 National Debating Squad, which will represent India at multiple prestigious international competitions, including the World Schools Debating Championships (WSDC) in Panama.
Key Competitions:
- World Schools Debating Championships (WSDC) 2025: The largest and most prestigious global high school debating competition, held annually in a different country. In 2025, it will take place in Panama City, Panama.
- International Competition for Young Debaters (ICYD): A top competition for debaters aged 15 and under, held alternately by Cambridge and Oxford Unions in the UK.
- Regional Competitions: Competitions such as the Asia World Schools Debating Championships, Doxbridge WSDC, Oldham Cup, and Oxford WSDC, hosted by various international debating institutions.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must be students still in school during July-August 2025 (12th graders in 2024-25 are ineligible).
- The age range for participants is 12-18 years.
- Applicants must be studying in a school in India.
Selection Championships:
- North Zone Junior Selection Championships (Aug 31, 2024): For grades 7-9, covering Bihar, Chandigarh, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand.
- South Zone Junior Selection Championships (Sept 14, 2024): For grades 7-9, covering Andaman & Nicobar, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, Telangana.
- Central Zone Junior Selection Championships (Sept 21, 2024): For grades 7-9, covering Chhattisgarh, Goa, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha.
- East Zone Junior Selection Championships (Sept 21, 2024): For grades 7-9, covering Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, West Bengal.
- Senior Selection Championships (Sept 28, 2024): For grades 10-11, all India coverage.
- West Zone Junior & Senior Selection Championships (Oct 20 & 21, 27 & 28, 2024): For grades 7-9 (Junior) and grades 10-11 (Senior), covering Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra.
What ISDS Expects:
- Commitment to prioritize the National Team above other extracurricular activities during 2024-25.
- A strong willingness to work hard and expand knowledge about the world.
