World Space Week : Interschool Painting Competition

About World Space Week
World Space Week (WSW) is the largest annual space event worldwide with 1,400 events in more than 80 countries. It is an exciting international astronomical event organized by the United Nations General Assembly from 4-10 October every year. These dates commemorate two historic events:
  • 4 October, 1957 marks the launch of the first human-made Earth satellite, Sputnik 1.
  • 10 October, 1967 marks the signing of the Treaty on Principles governing the activities of states in the exploration and peaceful uses of outer space.
SPACE is glad to organise and annual WSW Interschool Painting competition for students at primary and middle level from our associated schools only. Entries should be submitted as the scans of the paintings or as clicked images of the paintings. Painting submission starts from 5th October 2015 & can be submitted till 28th October 2015.

Theme: ‘Discovering space’

Categories:
Group I: I to III
Group II: IV and V
Group III: VI to VIII
Group IV: IX to XII

Let your imagination soar! Visualise new planets, asteroids and blackholes; think of settlements and colonies in space, imagine aliens. Draw any of these!

Award categories: 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winner in each category, which will be announced on the SPACE website on 6 November, 2015. Prizes will be given at the SPACE Annual Meet to be held in December 2015.

Most Popular - There is also a special category ‘Most Popular’ for the painting that receives the maximum number of likes on Facebook, either on our official account or on the participant’s personal account, with the hashtags #WSW2015 and #SpaceIndia. All participants will receive participation certificates by SPACE.

Terms & Conditions
  • Only one painting per student will be accepted.
  • There are no limits to the number of paintings that can be submitted by a school
  • Painting should be scanned or photographed with high resolution (200 dpi or better)
  • Original painting should be on A-3 size paper sheet.
  • Any coloring medium can be used, however no computer generated paintings will be accepted (eg. using software such as Illustrator)
  • All the entries submitted will become SPACE property. Further, it can be used anywhere by SPACE.
  • Paintings will be judged on the basis of originality, technique, style, composition and imagination as well as relevance to theme.
