To celebrate the Oxford Human Rights Festival, we are running an essay competition for all people ages of 11+ across the world. The theme for this essay competition is resilience, in line with the general theme of the festival, particularly focusing on resilience in circumstances of human rights abuse. By taking part in the OxHRF Essay competition you have a chance to share your thoughts and opinions with key players in the human rights field.
Junior Contest (11 -17 years
What does resilience mean to you in your local community?* (500 words)
Senior Contest (18 years +)
Explore Human Rights and resilience as you understand the two. How do you think your view will differ from how someone from a country currently facing mass human rights violations? (1,000 words)

Judging Criteria
Subject Matter: Relevance to the proposed topic; original or arresting subject, quality of insight and thought; unity of theme; imaginative imagery and concrete detail.
The essay must be e-mailed to gwhiteman@brookes.ac.uk with the file in a PDF format and the subject: OxHRF Essay Contest 2020.
The e-mail must include your name, age, location, photograph and a short bio about yourself. *If you are under 18 years a parent/guardian or teacher will need to submit your essay.
Terms & Conditions
The competition is being organised by the Oxford Human Rights Festival.
The competition has no upper age limit, and participants under the age of 18 must get their parents/guardians to submit their essay for them.
Only one entry is allowed per person, multiple individual entries will be disqualified.
No responsibility is accepted for entries not received for any reason.
No cash or credit alternatives will be offered and prizes are not transferable.
The winners will be chosen by the organiser.
Competition entries will be judged on the qualities of engagement, persuasion and creativity.
The decision regarding the winners of the competition is final.
Any personal data relating to the winner/s or other participants will be used solely in accordance with current data protection legislation of England and will not be disclosed to third parties without the prior consent of the participant.
Winners agree to the use of their names and images on any advertising materials produced by Oxford Human Rights Festival and CENDEP.
Participation in this competition implies acceptance of these Terms and Conditions. Please print a copy and save for your records
