The Government of Kerala has introduced various scholarships awarded to meritorious students of outstanding performance in the education sector as well as to the students of socially and economically backward categories. The Higher Education Department of Government of Kerala is entrusted with the responsibility of selection and disbursement of various scholarships to Higher Secondary, under Graduate and Post Graduate Streams.
Following are the various scholarships. Fresh application/renewal of scholarships usually commences in the month of December every year.

State Merit Scholarship

Scholarships for Minority Students studying for CA/ICWA/CS -Minority Welfare, Government of Kerala

Directorate of Minority Welfare, Government of Kerala invited applications for scholarships to the students belonging to minority communities studying for Chartered Accountancy/Institute of Cost and Work Accountancy/ Company Secretaryship.

  • The students from minority communities (Muslim, Cristain, Sikkh, Buddah, Parsi, Jain) belonging to BPL category are eligible. In the absence of BPL candidates applications of students having annual income less than 6 lakhs will also be considered.
  • The scholarships will be allotted in the ratio of 80:20 for Muslims and other communities.
  • 30% of the scholarship amount is reserved for girl students.
  • The students should have obtained 60% marks at graduation.

Vidya Samunnathi (Educational Schemes) Scholarship 2016-17 for High School to Post Graduation Students

Applications invited for the Vidya Samunnathi Scholarships by Under this scheme, the students of economically backward forward communities will get educational scholarships and competitive assistance for their studies.
Started in the financial year 2013-14, under this scheme scholarships will be given to students studying from high school level to post graduation. Special scholarships will be given to students studying professional courses like CA/ICWA/CS and those studying in IIT, IIM, NIT and similar National Institutes.

5. Gross annual income of family of the candidate from all sources should not be more than Rs. 4.00 lacs per annum. Students having lowest family income shall be given preference in the ascending order. Income certificate should be got issued from appropriate civil authorities of the State/UTs/Central Governments whose details have been specified under the head ‘Submission of Documents by Applicants’. Any Affidavit submitted as Income Proof shall not be accepted.
6. The age limit of the applicant is maximum 25 years as on 1st of October, 2016 for the Academic Session.
7. The candidates should not be availing or intend to avail any other financial assistance/scholarship from any other source.

Khorana Program for Scholars - for Students pursuing Biotechnology and allied areas

The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India,  Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) and WINStep Forward are partnering to support the prestigious Khorana Program for Scholars named in honor of Dr. Har Gobind Khorana, who won the Nobel Prize in 1968 for his work at the interface of Chemistry and Biology while a member of the UW faculty. The Khorana Program will provide opportunities to Indian students to undertake research at University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW) and partner universities in Summer 2017 for a period of 10 weeks. S. N. BOSE SCHOLARS PROGRAM

To nurture future innovators and thought leaders, the Science & Engineering Board (SERB), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India, the Indo-U.S. Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) and WINStep Forward have partnered to develop a dynamic and transformative student exchange program between premier institutions in India and the United States. The program is named in honor of Satyendra Nath Bose (1894 - 1974),a visionary Indian physicist best known for his work on quantum mechanics in the early 1920s. The class of particles that obey Bose-Einstein statistics, Bosons, was named after him.

Snehapoorvam Scholarship scheme by Social Welfare Department for orphaned children

Kerala Government has launched a noble initiative “SNEHAPOORVAM” as per the G.O (MS) No.36/2012/SWD dated 06/06/12 to provide financial support to orphans who are living in the family, with their relatives, friends, or the support of the community under the Social welfare Department implemented through Social Security Mission. The mission has initiated the project that aims at bringing these children to the main stream of the society.

OBJECTIVES OF THE SCHEME

To identify the orphaned children in the community
To assess and priorities children in the greatest need
To provide social protection to highly vulnerable groups of orphans by strengthening traditional family and community systems for protecting and absorbing orphans
To improve the basic education, social integration and nutrition of the most vulnerable groups of orphans towards the levels of other children in the community
To encourage the families to live their children within the family set up rather than sending them to orphanages
To extend a helping hand to these orphans families by way of providing financial assistance to the education of children.

AMOUNT OF ASSISTANCE

Children below 5 years and class I to V @ Rs.300/pm
For class VI to class X @ Rs 500/pm
For class XI and class XII @ Rs 750/pm
During this year the Government has issued orders to extend the scheme to the beneficiaries who are studying for Degree/professional courses. The rate of assistance per month is Rs. 1000/-.

National Level School Students Software Competition - Computer Society of India

Computer Society of India conducts a National Level School Students Software Competition every year. The winners will represent the country in the SEARCC International Schools’ Software Competitions as per details given below.

 Objective : To bring out problem solving and programming talents in school students, with speed, accuracy and team co-ordination, in a competitive environment and motivate them with due recognition, besides attractive prizes and certificates.

 Eligibility :
 It is a team based competition. Each team will consist of 3 students. All team members of school teams must be full-time students with age of 18 years or under, i.e. born on or after 1st January 1998.
A school can register only one team. 

Format:
The competition will be of two (2) hours duration, consisting of 4 problems using ONE of the Programming languages, viz., C or C++ or Java. It is to test the problem solving ability using a computer programming language. The teams will be selected on the basis of correct outputs and speed of submission of solutions to problems.
4.2 A first level Regional Competition is scheduled on Sunday the 31st July 2016 and will be held in 21 centres as per details given below.

YLAC India - Young Leaders for Active Citizenship - Boot Camp

The YLAC boot camp is a one of a kind program, designed and curated to enable young adults to become active agents of change in their communities. It is meant to give them an opportunity to reflect deeply about their identity, to broaden their perspective and to arm them with skills to affect change in their immediate contexts. It is also designed to give them an early exposure to liberal arts and to introduce them to some emerging career options in the discipline.

The 21 day program will be anchored by Rohit Kumar (Alumnus of Harvard Kennedy School of Government) and Aparajita Bharti (Alumna of Blavatnik School of Government, Oxford University). The program will introduce participants to the theoretical underpinnings of democracy and the welfare state, engage them in live projects with partner NGOs and provide an opportunity to interact with an eclectic mix of speakers from diverse backgrounds.

YLAC invites participation from promising young adults (grades 9th-12th) who have a keen interest in making a contribution to the broader society. Please visit our applications page to apply to the program.

The first boot camp is scheduled to begin on the 5th of June 2016 (Sunday). It is designed to be a mix of exercises, lectures, site visits and group work. The boot camp will include a two week supervised internship in an organization to be chosen by the participant from among our NGO partners. The detailed schedule can be accessed here. YLAC will make arrangements for lunch and refreshments during the in-class sessions at Zorba the Buddha as well as during the two planned field visits.

We are accepting applications on a rolling basis. Typically, applicants will be informed within a week of submitting the application online. Fees will be payable after the selection decision has been communicated to the applicant.

Applicants travelling from other cities should make their own boarding and lodging arrangements.



Scholarships
We recognize that all deserving candidates may not have the means to fund their participation in the program. To enable such candidates, YLAC will offer need and merit based scholarships to a few selected candidates.

For the June 2016 boot camp, up to five applicants will be offered 50% scholarships. To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must submit an additional essay explaining why they wish to participate in the program and why their application should be considered for a scholarship, as well as a short letter of recommendation from a teacher at school.

Scholarship decisions will be announced soon after the applications deadline.

Green Olympiad and Green Olympiad Junior are India's best environmental examination conducted annually by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI).

What after SSLC and Plus Two?

Madhyamam Daily in association with Mercury Academy will organise a career guidance class for students on 10 April 2016 at Ansar Women's College Auditorium, Perumpilav, Thrissur.

Famous career guidance specialist Dr. P R Venkita Raman will lead the class. 

150 students will be admitted to the class on first-cum-first-serve basis.

Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)

Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is an all India common engineering entrance examination conducted for admission in various engineering colleges and courses in India.
JEE consists of two parts, JEE Mains and JEE Advanced.
JEE-Advanced is for admission to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), and Indian School of Mines Dhanbad.
JEE-Main exam is for admission to Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), centrally funded technical institutes (CFTIs) as well as for admission to the dual degree programme of IIEST Shibpur. Only the students selected in JEE Mains are eligible for appearing in JEE Advanced.
Besides,  institutes like the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs), Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, and the Indian Institute of Science use the score obtained in JEE Advanced as the basis for admission.

RESERVATION OF SEATS

  • Scheduled Caste (SC) – 15% of seats in every course.
  • Scheduled Tribe (ST) – 7.5% of seats in every course.
  • Persons with Disability (PwD) – 3% seats in each of OPEN, OBC-NCL, SC and
  • ST category seats.
  • Two seats are available for preferential allotment in each Institute for Defence Service (DS) candidates
  • Seats allotted to foreign nationals are supernumerary with a cap of 10% of total number of seats in every course. 

JEE (MAIN) 
Candidates who wish to appear in JEE (Advanced) must write Paper-1 of JEE (Main) which will be held in the month of April. 

ELIGIBILITY FOR APPEARING IN JEE(MAIN)
Only those candidates who have passed their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying
examination in the previous academic session; or those who are appearing in their Class 12th Exam or any equivalent qualifying examination in the current academic session are eligible to appear in JEE (Main) . (See information bulletin for eligibility criteria at http://jeemain.nic.in/)

Mode of Examination
The Paper-1 (B.E./B. Tech.) (described below) of JEE (Main) will be conducted in two separate modes i.e. Offline (Pen and Paper Based Examination) mode and Online (Computer Based Examination) mode. The Paper-2 (B. Arch./B. Planning.) of JEE (Main) will be conducted only in Pen and Paper based examination mode. A candidate will opt for either Pen and Paper Based or Computer Based examination modes for Paper-1 (B. E./B. Tech.) only.

Type of Examination
JEE (Main) – 2016 shall have two papers, Paper-1 (B. E. / B. Tech.) and Paper-2 (B. Arch. / B. Planning.). Candidates may take Paper-1 (B. E. / B. Tech.), or Paper-2 (B. Arch. / B. Planning.), or both as per the course(s) they are seeking admission to.

Cities/Towns of JEE (Main) - Examination Centres
JEE (Main) - 2016 will be conducted in major cities and towns of India as well as abroad. The lists of cities are given in INFORMATION BULLETIN. While applying, candidates must select four centre cities in case of Pen & Paper based examination and one city in case of Computer based examination.

Number of Attempts The number of attempts which a candidate can avail at JEE (Main) shall be limited to 03 (three).

JEE (ADVANCED) 
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR APPEARING IN JEE (Advanced)
The minimum academic qualification for appearing in JEE (Advanced) - is that the candidate must have passed in final examination of Class 12th or equivalent qualifying examination. Those appearing in these examinations can also appear in JEE (Advanced) - provisionally. 

APPLICATION PROCEDURE FOR JEE (Main) AND JEE (Advanced) 
In order to appear in JEE (Main) and JEE (Advanced) 2016, the candidates are required to apply only online as per procedure.
