The Hindu in association with Space Kidz India presents the Young Scientist Contest for School students.
THEME
The Search for young talents of India in the field of Science and Technology and to create an International platform. The Young Scientist Program is designed to promote science awareness to middle and high school students’, to increase their understanding of science and to attract them into scientific careers through activities emphasizing hands-on research and encourage the participants what interest them to connect and collaborate with others to new discoveries.
CATEGORIES
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
The competition is open to Students studying IX, X, XI, XII studying from Tamilnadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka - irrespective of Board.
Individual Participation and Participation through schools are accepted
Email your registration on or before 15th December 2013 by sending your NAME / CLASS OF STUDY/ NAME OF SCHOOL AND CATEGORY OF PARTICIPATION TO THE EMAIL-ID: “youngscientist@spacekidzindia.com”
GUIDELINES
It is expected from schools to encourage their students to participate in THE HINDU YOUNG SCIENTIST 2014 to showcase their ideas for a better future to the whole country.
Students are encouraged to work on a project within one of the FIVE categories specified above.
Each school can field in 1- 12 students – TWO INDIVIDUAL PARTICIPANTS in each category (i.e - 2 individual projects in each category) and send their entries to Space Kidz India Office.
The students need to shoot a video of their completed project and copy it in a CD/DVD form of 6-8 minutes span along with e-copy of evidence and support documents saved in the same CD/DVD.
TIME FRAME
Last Date to Enrollment: 15th Dec’ 2013
Project Submission Deadline: on or before 15th January 2014
JUDGING CRITERIA
A panel of Professors from reputed Educational Institutions, Scientists will view the DVD’s and score the marks. Results of the TOP 10 projects in each stream will be published in the Space Kidz India / The Hindu, website and their schools will be duly intimated.
FINAL Event
The Winning students /schools will have to bring their working models with all the written material, to the venue on the 14th /15th February 2014 for the final event.
A Q&A session with eminent professors with regards to the model will take place at the venue. In-depth knowledge of the student participant will be scrutinized and 3 students from each stream will be chosen to compete for the “FINAL TITLE”
A common topic will be given to each of the 18 students, a time of 1hr will be given for preparation and then the students will have to speak extempore for 2mins about the same. Any on the spot models assembled /charts designed can be showcased to support the pertaining topic given for a minute, and bonus marks will be awarded for the same.
Finale will be held on 14th & 15th February 2014 at Hindustan University Campus, Chennai.
PRIZES
ONE WINNER WILL BE CHOSEN AND AWARDED THE TITLE “ YOUNG SCIENTIST 2013”, an ALL PAID TRIP TO NASA FOR A SPACE CAMP - 3 DAYS
ONE RUNNER UP WILL BE CHOSEN AND AN ALL PAID TRIP TO A MALAYSIAN SCHOOL FOR 3 DAYS WILL BE AWARDED APART FROM A TROPHY AND CERTIFICATE
THE WINNER, RUNNER UP AND THEIR RESPECTIVE SCHOOL PRINICIPAL’S WILL BE FELICITATED.
All participants will be awarded certificate of participation
