Tata Trusts invites an applications from students, who are studying at the UNDERGRADUATE and POSTGRADUATE levels in Colleges/Institutions for a Scholarship Programme.
The application process will be exclusively online and will start on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 - from 9.00 am and end on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 - 6.00 pm.

Guidelines
  • The Scholarship is for the current academic year (2017-2018).
  • Students to upload clear scanned copies and to be uploaded within the documents mentioned (in PDF format). Unclear / illegible / manipulated / incomplete documents uploaded forms will not be accepted and will be treated as void.
  • Percentage criteria has been set against each stream, students are requested to go through before applying.
  • False and misleading information provided by the student will lead to the disqualification of the form.
  • The Trusts does not have any intermediaries / agents. Students are advised to beware of such individuals that claim to represent the Trusts and demand a share from the grant, if sanctioned. In case any such demands are made, Students are requested to bring the matter to the notice of Trust Office immediately.

Summer Research Fellowship Programme (SRFP) at JNCASR

Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research invites applications for its Summer Research Fellowship Programme 2018, for motivated and talented students in Science and Engineering, studying in India.

INTRODUCTION

The Centre offers summer fellowships for two months to bright undergraduate and MSc students studying in India. This programme has proved to be popular and competitive; each year, about 2000 students from all over India apply for the 50-60-80 fellowships awarded. All the fellowships are supported by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. Students are placed with research groups at JNCASR or with scientists elsewhere in India. They are paid travel expenses and a monthly stipend of Rs. 6000. Selected students get the opportunity to participate in cutting-edge research, and several summer projects have led to publications in leading journals. Many of the summer students of past years have gone on to pursue graduate studies and a research career, at the JNCASR or at another leading university.

  • Students who have secured not less than 80% in Maths and Science subjects in their 10th and 12th standard or equivalent examinations, and not less than first class in graduation and post graduation (if applicable).
  • Students presently studying in I and II year of B.Sc., I, II & III year of B.S., I, II & III year of B.E. /B.Tech., I year of M.Sc., and I-III year of Integrated M.Sc. can apply for Life Sciences.
  • Students presently studying in II & III year of B.Sc., II, III & IV year B.S., II, III & IV year of B.E/B.Tech., I year of M.Sc. and I-III year of Integrated M.Sc. can apply for Physical Sciences, Engineering Sciences and Mathematics.
  • Students presently IV year of BS-MS, I year of M.Sc. and IV year of Int. M.Sc. can apply for Materials Sciences and Chemical Sciences.
  • The students selected under this programme are placed with scientists at the Centre or elsewhere in India, for 2 continuous months with a stipend of Rs. 6000 /- p.m and travel support as per Centre’s norms.

2500 SCHOLARSHIPS (NATIONAL FUND) For STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES FOR ACADEMIC YEAR 2017-18

National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation (NHFDC), for and on behalf of Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India, invites applications from Students with Disabilities for award of Scholarship Scheme (National Fund).
Under this scheme, 2500 National Scholarships will be awarded to eligible students with disabilities for pursuing higher academic/professional or technical qualification.
Every year 2500 scholarships will be provided to the differently-abled students throughout the country. 30% scholarships will be reserved for girls, which will be transferable to male students in case of non-availability of female candidates.
Applicant has to apply online (www.nhfdc.nic.in) for scholarship from 01.07.2013 to 31.08.2013 and scholarship shall be awarded once in a academic year under this scheme. Applicant has to submit hard copy of the application duly recommended by the head of the institution.

Rate of Scholarship and other benefits under the scheme:
4.1 The following benefits will be available under the scheme:-
 
(i) Non-refundable fees shall be fully awarded in case of Government/Government-aided institution. In case of private Institutes the reimbursement would be restricted to similar courses in Government/Government-aided institutions.

Conditions for Scholarship:
i) Financial assistance will be given to pursue degree and/or post graduate level technical and professional courses from a recognized institution. Maintenance, book/stationary allowance and grant for purchase of assistive devices will be credited to the student's account. Non-refundable fees shall be reimbursed to the student on production of proof of deposit of fees or will be paid directly to the Institute under intimation to the student.
ii) Scholarship will be awarded for only one course at a time.
iii) Students who get admission to a college to pursue technical/professional courses, on the basis of a competitive examination will be eligible for the scholarship without any consideration of percentage of marks at higher secondary/graduation level.
iv) Students who get admission in technical/professional courses without facing any competitive examination will also be eligible for scholarship. However, such students should have not less than 50% marks at higher secondary/graduation level. Selection of these students will be done strictly on merit basis.In case of female students should have not less than 45% marks at highersecondary/graduation level.
v) Students who pursue their education through correspondence would also be eligible for the scholarship.
vi) Continuation of the scholarship in subsequent years will be subject to successful completion of the course during the preceding year. However, grace period shall be admissible for Girl Students and Students failing in category C-4 is of two years and for all other categories is for one year w.e.f. the academic year 2014-15.
vii) A candidate who is awarded scholarship for one course, after its completion will be eligible for another course too. However, the awardees will not be eligible for a similar or equivalent course.
viii) A scholarship holder under this Scheme will not avail any other scholarship/stipend for pursuing the course.
ix) The annual income of the beneficiary/parent or guardian of beneficiary should not exceed Rs. 3.00 lakh from all sources. However, preference shall be given to economically weaker students.
How to apply 
Application in enclosed prescribed format shall be submitted at any time during an academic year to the assigned agency. An advance copy of the application should also be submitted on line. Each applicant shall be given a registration number on receipt of the application. The screening committee shall examine these applications quarterly and the scholarship amount will be disbursed.

How to Prepare for NTSE - Best Books for NTSE

National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) is a national-level scholarship program in India to select the talented students. Scholarship is provided to 1000 students from the lakhs of students who appear for the examination every year. Qualifying the first level is not at all a difficult task if you do the right kind of preparation.

The National Talent Search Examination is conducted for students studying at the Class X level. The examination consists of the following two tests:
Mental Ability Test (MAT)  (50 marks) -  to judge their power of reasoning, ability to think, ability to judge, evaluate or discriminate, ability to visualize in the space, spatial orientation, etc
Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) - 

  • Language Test (50 marks) is designed to judge the power of reading comprehension, logical sequencing; interpretative, evaluative, predictive and creative components of language.  Language test is to be attempted either in English or in Hindi (as per option of the candidate) in the national level NTSE. 
  • Sciences, Mathematics & Social Sciences (100 marks)
The items in the MAT and SAT are multiple choice questions and there is no negative marking.

Study Package for NTSE by Tata McGraw Hill is the most popular book for NTSE. The revised third edition of the book published in 2016, with mock test papers and higher order thinking questions, is based on the syllabus outlined for class IX and X, and follows the latest pattern of the examinations.
The previous editions of this book are still available and are also useful. But go for the latest edition. This one is highly recommended for you.
This book by the editorial team of Arihant, one of the reputed publishers of competitive examination books, is another useful study material for NTSE. It is a complete package covering all topics and the syllabus is completely updated in the latest 2017 edition.
The latest edition of Target NTSE Class 10 Stage 1 & 2 Solved Papers (2010 - 17) + 5 Mock Tests (MAT + LCT + SAT) by Disha is good for practice. It contains question papers of the past eight years. The book has a separate section “PAST EXEMPLAR PROBLEMS' for SAT, MAT and LCT. 
MAT for NTSE Made Easy by MTG is a good resource for preparation for mental ability test of NTSE and other competitive examinations.

Japanese Government Scholarships - MEXT Scholarship for Undergraduate Students

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology(MEXT)offers scholarships to international students who wish to study at Japanese universities as undergraduate students under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program for 2018 as follows.

The scholarship is for a period of five years from April (including one year of Japanese language training period).
Stipend of 117,000 /month (Approximately INR 69000/- per month for the year)
Japanese Language: Applicants must be willing to learn Japanese. Applicants must be interested in Japan and be willing to deepen their understanding of Japan after arriving in Japan. In addition, in principle, applicants must be willing to carry out their academic studies in Japan in Japanese.

The scholarship period will last for five years from April 2018 to March 2023, including the one-year preparatory education in the Japanese language and other subjects due to be provided upon arrival in Japan. For scholarship grantees majoring in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine or a six-year course in pharmacy, the scholarship period will be seven years until March 2025.

Tuition and Other Fees: Fees for the entrance examination, matriculation, and tuition at universities will be paid by MEXT.
SELECTION
The Japanese diplomatic mission in those countries will conduct First Screening of applicants by means of submitted application documents, interviews and academic examinations.

            Students from New Delhi, Noida and Nashik Schools win study trips to Australian Universities

            Australian Prime Minister with the Winners
            Australian Prime Minister, the Hon Malcolm Turnbull, MP and Senator the Hon Simon Birmingham, MP and Minister for Education and Training, Australian Government met with the winners of The Advance to Australia, “A2Oz” - India Schools Video Competition 2016-2017 in New Delhi yesterday.

            Students from New Delhi, Noida and Nashik schools won study trips to Australian Universities. Students from 325 schools across India participated in the competition and developed short films on next generation fields of study in areas of growing career opportunities in aerospace, construction management, earth sciences, nanotechnology and story-telling through dance.

            The winners of the competition organised jointly by the Australian Trade & Investment Commission (Austrade), and Cambridge English Language Assessment are:

            ·         Aerospace theme - Sanskriti School, New Delhi
            ·         Earth Sciences theme -Wisdom High International School, Nashik
            ·         Construction Management theme - Delhi Public School, RK Puram
            ·         Story-telling through Dance theme - Kothari International School, Noida

            NATIONAL CHILD AWARD FOR EXCEPTIONAL ACHIEVEMENTS

            The Government of India from time to time has been instituting awards for individuals and organizations who have done outstanding work for the welfare and development of children. Awards have also been instituted for honouring children who have been shown exemplary courage at the risk of their own lives.

            Cornell University Tata Scholarship for students from India

            The Tata Scholarship Fund will support approximately 20 scholars at any given time and will ensure that the very best Indian students have access to Cornell, regardless of their financial circumstances. The scholarship will be awarded annually; recipients will receive the scholarship for the duration of their undergraduate studies at Cornell.

            Qualifications

            To receive the undergraduate scholarship, a recipient must:

            • be a citizen of India and have attended secondary school in India;
            • be offered admission to Cornell as an undergraduate student;
            • be eligible for need-based financial aid.

            Eligibility

            1. ONGC Scholarship is for Indian Students pursuing their studies from in India.
            2. The student must belong to EBC General or OBC category and should be pursuing his first year study in Engineering, MBBS, Master in Geology/Geophysics or MBA.
            3. The scholarship scheme will be admissible only for pursuing full-time regular courses from UGC/MCI/AICTE recognized universities located in India.
            4. The candidate must have scored atleast 60% marks or equivalent CGPA/OGPA in 12th Standard, Engineering and MBBS discipline. Similarly, those applying for PG level scholarship such as Geology/Geophysics/MBA must have secured minimum 60% marks at graduation level.
            5. The specific zone for disbursement of scholarship shall be decided on the basis location of School/University/College/Institute from which the student has appeared for the qualifying exam.(i.e 12th Standard for Graduate level course and Graduation degree for Post-Graduate Level Courses) irrespective of his domicile certificate.
            6.The gross joint family income of applicant from all sources should not exceed Rs. 2 Lakhs per annum.(The applicant has to attached income certificate issued by competent authority)
            7.The maximum age of the candidate should not be above 30 years  as on 1st September 2016 for the current academic session.
            8.The beneficiary under the scholarship scheme should not be availing or intend to avail any other financial aid or scholarship from any other source.

            SELECTION PROCEDURE
            a. Selection of the candidate will be made on the basis of merit in the qualifying examination
            prescribed for each eligible course of study. In case of students having equal percentage in the
            qualifying examination, students with lower family income shall be selected.
            b. Preference will be given to students from Below Poverty Line (BPL) families. Other students
            shall be considered only if sufficient numbers of students from Below Poverty Line (BPL) families
            fulfilling the eligibility criteria are not available.

            The scholarship will cover lump sum amount of INRv4000/- per month, i.e. INR 48,000/- per annum.
