In celebration of World Environment Day (WED) 2025, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) invite all UN offices across Asia and the Pacific to participate in the region-wide Beat Plastic Video Challenge. This challenge offers an exciting opportunity for teams to showcase their efforts in reducing plastic pollution and inspire others across the region.
Challenge Overview
The Beat Plastic Video Challenge is designed to raise awareness about the environmental impact of plastic pollution and highlight how UN offices are taking action to beat it. Teams will create a fun, engaging video (up to 90 seconds) that shares a lesson learned from nature and demonstrates how these insights have led to plastic-free practices in the workplace.
The most creative and impactful videos will be voted on during the online World Environment Day celebration event on 5 June and showcased through UNEP’s regional social media platforms. This is your chance to showcase the meaningful steps your office is taking to contribute to a plastic-free future.

How to Participate
To get involved, gather your team and create a 90-second video that reflects the lessons your office has learned from nature. The video should connect these insights to actions that help reduce plastic use in the office. The theme is simple: “What did nature teach us about beating plastic pollution?”
Here’s how to structure your video:
-
Start with a Collective Insight: Begin with a meaningful, shared lesson your team has learned from nature.
-
Link to Action: Show how that lesson has inspired your team to adopt plastic-free practices in the office.
-
Keep it Conversational: Be authentic and genuine in your approach. Speak from the heart.
-
End with a Message of Hope: Encourage other offices to follow your example and develop their own solutions to reduce plastic pollution.
-
Submit Your Video: Once your video is polished, submit it to the UN Plastic-free Best Practice platform.
Technical Requirements
To ensure your video is of high quality and meets the submission criteria, please adhere to the following technical specifications:
-
Resolution: Shoot in HD 1080p for clarity.
-
Framing: Record in landscape/horizontal format.
-
Lighting: Use natural lighting and face toward it to improve visibility.
-
Format: Submit the video in MP4 format for compatibility and efficient compression.
-
Setting: If possible, shoot your video in a natural setting to emphasize the connection to nature.
Awards and Recognition
The top three videos from across Asia and the Pacific will receive special recognition:
-
National Level: Winners will be celebrated on UNEP’s regional social media platforms and acknowledged for their outstanding efforts to #BeatPlasticPollution.
-
Classifications: Winning videos will be recognized based on creativity, impact, and relevance to the theme, and the efforts shown to reduce plastic use in the office.
Why Participate?
This challenge is not only an opportunity to showcase your office’s efforts in sustainability but also a chance to inspire others and be part of a larger movement towards a plastic-free future. By participating, you’ll not only contribute to the global fight against plastic pollution but also gain recognition for your innovative and impactful actions.
Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity to make a difference. Start brainstorming, gather your team, and create a video that reflects your commitment to a plastic-free world!
