Summer Programmes 2024 - Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium Bangalore

Bangalore Association for Science Education (BASE) will be conducting several activity-based summer programmes covering a wide age group of student


Tiny-Tots

This is a five-day activity-based science programme for students who have passed classes III, IV and V, that includes simple science demonstrations and model making.

First Batch: April 2 to 6 Time: 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.
Second Batch: April 2 to 6 Time: 3 pm to 5 pm.
Third Batch: April 16 to 20 Time: 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.
Fourth Batch: April 16 to 20 Time: 3 pm to 5 pm.
Number of participants: 25 in each batch.

Fee: Rs.750/- per head.


Fun with Science

This is a five-day programme for students who have passed classes VI and VII. Students are taught the basics of science through demonstrations and hands-on activities.

Date: April 23 to 27.
Time: 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.
Number of participants: 35.
Fee: Rs.750/- per head.

One Day Workshops for students

Three one-day workshops will be conducted for students who have passed classes VII and VIII. These are
activity-based programmes that introduce students to concepts in mathematics and science.

April 14th one-day workshop on Instruments and Measurements.
April 28th one-day workshop on Experiments with Fluids.
May 5th One-day workshop on Recreational Mathematics.
Time: 10:30 am to 3:30 pm.

Number of participants: 40 in each batch.

Fee: Rs.250/- per head per day.

Astro-computing

This five-day computer-based programme introduces students of classes VIII to X to methods adopted by astronomers to locate positions of asteroids, understand rotation of the Sun and other celestial motions using CLEA software.

First Batch: April 2 to 6.
Time: 10:30 am to 12:30 pm
Second Batch: April 2 to 6
Time: 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Number of participants: 20 in each batch.

Fee: Rs.750/- per head.

Astronomy through Apps

Astronomy is an observational science, but not restricted to only telescopes any more. You can learn about sun-earth connections, planets, stars and galaxies with apps on your mobile phone. A 3-day workshop has been organised for high school students, where selected Astronomy apps will be introduced with basic science concepts necessary to understand the techniques. Android device is essential to install and run the Apps.

Date: April 18th to 20th.
Time: 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.
Number of participants: 30.
Fee: Rs.500/- per head.

Summer Course for high school students

This is for students of classes IX and X on the topic “The Science of Sense Organs.”. In this course, we will discuss the fundamental ideas related to nature of sound and how they are used in producing and detecting sound in nature as well as in human-made instruments.

Date: April 16th to 27th.
Time: 10:30 am to 3:30 pm.
Number of participants: 30.
Fee: Rs.1000/- per head.

From Web of Life to Universe

This is a ten-day programme for college students. This is aimed at motivating PUC and B.Sc., students towards research both in Physical and Life Sciences. Lectures for these courses are given by scientists from research institutes. The lectures introduce the students to fundamental ideas and frontier areas of research in various fields. Special lectures by medical practitioners about relevance of physics and biology to medical science also are scheduled.

Date: May 21st– 31st (Tentative dates- subject to the PhD interview dates of different institutions).
Time: 10:30 am to 3:30 pm.
Number of participants: 40 in each batch.
Fee: Rs.1000/- per head.

ZSD Workshop

This is a workshop for high school students which includes activities with Sun projection, estimation of earth’s circumference by Eratosthenes experiment and estimation of speed of the earth’s rotation. This will be conducted April 24.

Date: April 24th.
Time: 10:30 am to 3:30 pm.
Number of participants: 30.
Fee: Rs.250/- per head.

Universe in the classroom

This is a three day programme for students above 13 years and interested general public. The programme introduces some basic astronomy with hands on activities, model demonstration and movies. This will be conducted from April 26-28.

Date: April 26th-28th.
Time: 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Number of participants: 40.
Fee: Rs.750/- per head.

Xplore

This is a five day programme for Pre University students aimed to introduce the method of doing science with experiments performed using simple things. A science exploration kit will be provided to the students which contains materials that can be used by the students to perform several experiments. This will be conducted from May 1st-5th.

Date: May 1st-5th.
Time: 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.
Number of participants: 30.
Fee: Rs.2000/- per head.
