Oxford Big Read Global is an exciting reading competition for school students in India, organised by Oxford University Press (OUP). It encourages students to discover the joy of reading through specially selected Oxford Readers and age-appropriate activities.
Students from participating schools will read books, complete fun tasks based on their class level, and submit their entries through their schools. Shortlisted entries will be selected by each school and then sent to Oxford University Press for the final round.
Schools that wish to participate can also get a free trial of Oxford Reading Buddy, an engaging digital platform that offers hundreds of eBooks for students to read and enjoy.
Who Can Participate?
Students from Classes 1 to 9 studying in schools across India can take part in the Oxford Big Read Global competition. Each class will be grouped into levels according to their grade and will do activities suitable for their age group.
Please note that:
-
Entries must be submitted through the class teacher and the school.
-
Individual submissions directly from parents or students will not be accepted.
-
Entries must be original. The use of artificial intelligence or any similar tool for creating entries is not allowed. Oxford University Press will check for plagiarism and may disqualify any non-original work.
How Can Schools Join?
Schools interested in joining Oxford Big Read Global can get in touch with Oxford University Press for an exclusive one-month free trial of Oxford Reading Buddy. This trial allows up to 100 students of Classes 3 to 6 to access a wide range of fiction and non-fiction eBooks to help them participate in the competition.
Why Should You Participate?
The Oxford Big Read Global is a wonderful opportunity for students to:
-
Develop a lifelong love for reading
-
Improve their language and comprehension skills
-
Explore new ideas through books
-
Express their creativity through different activities
If you’re a student, ask your teacher if your school is participating — and if you’re a teacher or school leader, this is a great chance to bring more reading into your classrooms.
