Owlypia Locals: Intellectual Challenge

Owlypia Locals are exciting two-day events held in various cities/countries around the world in partnership with the host institutions. They form the basis of growth, progress and merit, and allow students to participate in and experience the spirit of Owlypia in their own countries. You can join and experience an Owlypia Local in your city/country as a team of three students and also get ready for the Owlypia Globals.

Students take four Owlypia Challenges throughout a two-day event. Through Owlypia Intellectuals’ Week students are encouraged to challenge their limits intellectually and given the power to tailor their learning experiences in ways that best suit their needs.

HOW OWLYPIA LOCALS WORK

1. Register Now

Register for the challenge in your city/country and make your payment.

2. Select Your Subject

Owlypia has five subjects (Science and Technology, Literature and Culture, Economics and Business, Art and Design, Social Sciences)

3. Get Prepared

Do research in your favourite subject. Find the recommended resources under each subject.

4. Take the Challenge

Take the challenges as a team of three students, win prizes and get ready for the Owlypia Globals!

General Guidelines

A group of three students form a team and work cooperatively to complete all the challenges successfully.

All students compete in team challenges in three age categories; Owlins (ages 9-11), Owlets (ages 12-14) and Owlys (ages 15-18).

All students register their teams online and prepare themselves for the challenges studying the recommended resources.

The study resources contain several movies and videos to watch, books and articles to read, topics to research, and questions to sharpen their knowledge.

All team members must compete in all 4 team challenges. For more information, click on each challenge please.

The Challenges

Knowledge Challenge

The big quiz with a subject focus; all students take a multiple choice test based on their favourite subject and the theme of the year.

Speech-Craft Challenge

An intense speaking contest with two rounds! Students are required to defend either the negative or the positive side of a pre-chosen argument as a team.

Impromptu Challenge

A great opportunity for students to experience organising clear thoughts and deliver them effectively in the limited time provided.

Team Spirit Challenge

Working together is the key in this multiple choice team challenge! All teams take this challenge together in the main hall using their clickers.

PRIZES IN OWLYPIA LOCALS

Certificates, Medals, Mascot Owlys and lots of fun included!

Overall 1st, 2nd and 3rd TEAMS and INDIVIDUALS in Owlins, Owlets and Owlys get a 25%, 20% and 15% discount* respectively for Owlypia Global Rounds.

*The discount cannot be combined with Owlypia Online prizes. In case a student gets both, the higher one is granted and it must be claimed in 30 days.

Owlypia Globals 

Owlypia Globals are exciting international competitions for students aged 9-11 (Owlins), 12-14 (Owlets) and 15-18 (Owlys). At Owlypia Globals, students come together at prestigious institutions to participate in a series of team and individual challenges revolving around a central theme. Owlypia Globals are held onsite in Cambridge-UK and Boston-USA and online as Global Virtual.
