Define the future of remote work and collaboration in the construction industry

Kuala Lumpur, April 6th – 9th

The annual Hilti Global IT Competition (ITC) is organized to provide a platform for the young talents to tackle some daunting challenges faced by the construction industry. Undergraduate and postgraduate students from all parts of the globe are encouraged to participate to not only display their innovative ideas but also pave a way to kick-start great careers.

Remote work and collaboration in the construction industry

Hilti is a multinational company that offers premium products and services for professionals on construction sites around the globe. Behind this vast catalogue is a global team comprising of team members from 133 different nationalities located in more than 120 countries. While we have achieved success in the past, we are never complacent. As a future ready company, Hilti is always committed in providing innovative solutions that allow the company to serve its customers better. Today’s digital age requires a cohesive remote working and collaboration solutions, this topic could be addressed in the following three areas:

(1) Developing new and secure remote work and collaboration solutions

Hilti is constantly developing innovative ways to allow our users to communicate effectively with each other better. Our customers are located all around the world and due to this multi-location nature of the business, it is important that the proposed remote working and collaboration solutions are easy to use, reliable, and secure. 

(2) Investigating future working and collaboration solutions

As a customer centric business, the increasing trend of remote working has certainly impacted the collaboration in our day to day operations. However, we also see this as a golden opportunity to enter a new era of a remote work and collaboration, both driven by the need to have a more effective method for human interaction within and outside of the company, and also the recent accelerated adoption of more advanced telepresence and mixed reality tools such as AR, VR and robots. 

(3) Overcoming the problems of remote work and collaboration

For successful deployment of your solutions, many issues or challenges need to be addressed or overcome, for example: (1) Difficulty in Creating Presence Across Different Communication Mediums, (2) Compatibility and Longevity / Standards, (3) Information Privacy and Cyber Security etc. Your submissions may propose new concept or solution on how to address these issues, potential users’ concerns as well as the technical, legal and regulatory challenges on a global scale.

Submission and important dates

Selected finalists will be invited to an on-site workshop and award ceremony at Hilti Asia IT Services Sdn. Bhd. in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. For complete details about the competition, please refer to the call for submission document on the website.

Eligibility

The Contest is open to individuals who are full-time tertiary students currently pursuing:

- Undergraduate (Bachelor’s)

- Graduate (Master’s)

- Postgraduate (PhD) studies in any of the tertiary institutions around the world. 

your team may consist of participants from different universities within the same region.

There is no fee for participation and no purchase is necessary.  

PRIZES

1st place: Sponsored trip

All members of the winning team will receive air fare and accommodation at one of Hilti’s strategic IT locations: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Plano/Tulsa, United States or Buchs, Switzerland. The trip will be arranged based on the winning team’s home country. The team members will have the opportunity to learn about Hilti IT services and build their Hilti network.

Runners up (x 2): A piece of Hilti

All members of the two runners up teams will walk away with a Hilti power tool. Hilti power tools are one of the finest products with advanced technology, precision, reliability and a lifetime warranty.

Fast-track Application Process

All finalists will have access to a fast-track internship application process in either the United States, Malaysia or Switzerland. The internship provides finalists with the chance to further develop their idea and bring it to life at Hilti.
