GREEN Olympiad
GREEN Olympiad is an annual written examination on environment initiated by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in 1999. The exam is conducted by Educating Youth for Sustainable Development Division of TERI and attracts participation from lakhs of school students across India and abroad.
UNESCO and DESD (Decade of Education for Sustainable Development -2004-2015) has endorsed GREEN Olympiad since 2011.
Green Olympiad is also supported by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, Army School Education Trust. CBSE, Bhavans Vidya Mandir and Hero.
Students of grades 4 – 12 enrolled in a school affiliated to recognized educational board or trust are eligible to appear for GREEN Olympiad. Private coaching institute and similar entities are not allowed to participate in this exam.
Details of GREEN Olympiad:
Date: The Green Olympiad will take place either on 22 October or 20 November 2024. School will decide on one of these dates depending upon the school's academic calendar.
Venue: The examination will be conducted offline, within the confines of the school premises.
Eligibility: All students from classes 4 to 12 are eligible to participate.
Languages: The examination will be organised in English, Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, Oriya, Tamil, and Assamese
Preparatory Material: TERI has thoughtfully curated a Resource Booklet, comprising of range of topics in the environment and sustainable development domains, covering thematic issues, challenges, and solutions thereof, along with model question papers, to aid students in their preparation.
Fee: Parents are requested to deposit INR 200 with the coordinating teachers as a registration fee. There is also an option to purchase the Resource Booklet with an additional INR 120 per student. School registration for all the students will be undertaken collectively by the coordinating teacher.
Certificates and Cash Prizes:
1. Top Performers: The highest-scoring students in each Level will receive cash prizes.
2. Certificates: All participants will receive certificates. The categories of certificates are as follows:
i) Certificate of Participation: Scores from 0 – 59%
ii) Certificate of Merit: Students who score from 60 – 79%
iii) Certificate of Distinction: 80% and above
iv) Certificate of Excellence: Rank holders
3. School Recognition: Top-performing schools and schools with highest registration
will also receive certificates of excellence and cash prizes.
