Japanese Government Scholarships - MEXT Scholarship for Undergraduate Students

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology(MEXT)offers scholarships to international students who wish to study at Japanese universities as undergraduate students under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program for 2018 as follows.

Level Undergraduate level leading to Bachelors Degree
Age From 17 to 21 years (between 02.04.1996 and 01.04.2001)
Fields of Study

1. Social Sciences and Humanities 
(A) Laws, Politics, Pedagogy, Sociology, Literature, History, Japanese Language and others
(B) Economics, Business Administration
2. Natural Science
(A) Science, Electric and Electronic Studies, Mechanical Studies, Civil Eng. & Architecture, Chemical Studies and others
(B) Agricultural Studies, Hygienic Studies, Science (Biology)

(C) Medicine, Dentistry

Eligibility: Students who have academic ability equal to that of a high school graduate (Plus Two)
The scholarship is for a period of five years from April (including one year of Japanese language training period).
Stipend of 117,000 /month (Approximately INR 69000/- per month for the year)
Japanese Language: Applicants must be willing to learn Japanese. Applicants must be interested in Japan and be willing to deepen their understanding of Japan after arriving in Japan. In addition, in principle, applicants must be willing to carry out their academic studies in Japan in Japanese.

The scholarship period will last for five years from April 2018 to March 2023, including the one-year preparatory education in the Japanese language and other subjects due to be provided upon arrival in Japan. For scholarship grantees majoring in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine or a six-year course in pharmacy, the scholarship period will be seven years until March 2025.

Tuition and Other Fees: Fees for the entrance examination, matriculation, and tuition at universities will be paid by MEXT.
SELECTION
The Japanese diplomatic mission in those countries will conduct First Screening of applicants by means of submitted application documents, interviews and academic examinations.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Applicants must submit the following documents to the Japanese diplomatic mission in the applicant’s country by the required date. The submitted documents will not be returned.

Category 'A' : BPL Students

Category 'B' : ITI Students
Students studying in Govt. and Private ITIs in courses / trades as per Annexure-III Courses of duration, one year or two year shall only be eligible. Minimum percentage of marks in previous examination should be 50%. Further, students staying in hostel shall be paid extra in addition to scholarship.

Category 'C' : General Students
i) Graduate Courses Like:
    1. B.A., B.Com, B.Sc., BFA, BCA, BBA, BBM, Bachelor of Business Economics/Finance, B.Sc. (Agriculture), BVSC integrated course of 5 years (first 3 years shall be treated as graduation course), 
      2. In the field of Environment like : Environment Scientist,
        Environment Engineer and Environment Journalist.
          3. In the field of Hospitality, 
            Micro Biology, Forensic Sciences and Social Work.


            ii) Post Graduation Courses like:
            1. M.A., M.Phil, M.Com, M.Lib (Science), MBA, Master of Business Economics/Finance/ Human Resources Management/ International Business/ M.Sc. / MVSc, M.Sc. (Agriculture), MCA, Organic Agriculture, Solar Energy, Rural/Urban Management, Integrated course for 5 years (remaining 2 years amount for post graduation basis).
            2. In the field of Environment like : Environment Scientist, Environment Engineer and Environment Journalist.
            3. In the field of Hospitality,  Micro Biology, Forensic Sciences and Social Work

            Category 'D' Diploma courses
            1. Diploma in Civil Engg., Computer Science, Chemical, Automobile Tech., Machine Tool Tech., Mettalurgy, Electronics, Electricals & Mechanical Engg.
            2. Diploma in the field of Environment like : Environment Scientist, Environment Engineer and Environment Journalist.
            3. Diploma in Nursing, Pharmacy & Physiotherapy

            Category 'E' Engineering & Medicine Courses
            i)Graduate Engineering Courses (all streams) including Architecture and Medicine Courses including Naturopathy, M.B.B.S., Dental, B Pharma, Homeopathy, Ayurveda. 
            ii) PG Courses Engineering & Medicine Courses including Homeopathy, Naturopathy, M Pharma, Surgery (excluding MDS)

            For students staying in hostel
            Additional amount for hosteler
            i) ITI/Diploma
            ii) Grad/ PG Courses 
            iii) Medical & Engg.Courses (including PG Courses)

            Family Income Limits:
             (a) (i) Category ‘A’ & ‘B’ – Certified photocopy of BPL Card or Income Certificate of family income on per annum basis should be
            submitted with the application form. Income Certificate is not required from orphans who will have to submit death certificate of
            his/her parents
             (b) For category C, D, & E -
             i) For those in employment - Rs.4.00 lakh per year - Certificate issued by the Employer.
            ii) For all others - Rs.2.50 lakhs per year - Income Certificate issued by Patwari, BDO, Revenue Officer, any Gazetted Officer, any
            Retired IAS, IPS or Class I Central Govt. Officer, Sarpanch/Gram Pradhan/President of Village Panchayat. For Rajasthan state, since
            the Govt. of Rajasthan has prohibited the Revenue Officers from issue of Income Certificates and have authorised self certified
            Income Certificates duly notarized by the Notary Public with two responsible witness, such Income Certificates will be accepted from
            Rajasthan. In case the Income Certificate is issued in any language other than Hindi or English, the student should also submit a
            translated copy in English or Hindi duly certified by the Principal / Authorised Signatory

            VENKAT PANCHAPAKESAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP 2018

            Google for Education invites applications for The Venkat Panchapakesan Memorial Scholarship award of 750 USD towards tuition and education related expenses, and will be invited to visit the YouTube headquarters in San Bruno, California, USA. Selected students will also have an opportunity to submit a proposal, and potentially receive a funding of up to 225 USD to spend on growing computer science in the local community.

            Who can apply?

            Applicants who are enrolled in Graduation or post graduation in a college/university in India for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic year are eligible to apply.
            Applicants must be currently pursuing a course in computer science, computer engineering or a closely related technical field.

            We are specifically looking for university students who:

            • Aspire to be computer scientists and technology leaders
            • Exemplify leadership skills and a demonstrated passion for computer science and technology
            • Assist those around them to excel in the field of computer science and technology

            3. Submit a video (1 minute maximum) telling us why you would like to receive this scholarship. Please upload it on YouTube and share the link in the application.
            4. Submit your resume/CV. Be sure to include your experience in the area of computer science, as well as your leadership experiences and the impact you have created.
            5. Submit 2 letters of recommendation. They can be from your faculty or supervisors at your workplace (internship, part-time job, full-time job).
