GUIDELINES

It is expected from schools to encourage their students to participate in  THE HINDU YOUNG SCIENTIST 2014 to showcase their ideas for a better future to the whole country.

Students are encouraged to work on a project within one of the FIVE categories specified above.

Each school can field in 1- 12 students – TWO INDIVIDUAL PARTICIPANTS in each category (i.e - 2 individual projects in each category) and send their entries to Space Kidz India Office.

The students need to shoot a video of their completed project and copy it in a CD/DVD form of 6-8 minutes span along with e-copy of evidence and support documents saved in the same CD/DVD.

JUDGING CRITERIA

A panel of Professors from reputed Educational Institutions, Scientists will view the DVD’s and score the marks. Results of the TOP 10 projects in each stream will be published in the Space Kidz India / The Hindu, website and their schools will be duly intimated.

FINAL Event

The Winning students /schools will have to bring their working models with all the written material, to the venue on the 14th /15th February 2014 for the final event.

A Q&A session with eminent professors with regards to the model will take place at the venue. In-depth knowledge of the student participant will be scrutinized and 3 students from each stream will be chosen to compete for the “FINAL TITLE”

A common topic will be given to each of the 18 students, a time of 1hr will be given for preparation and then the students will have to speak extempore for 2mins about the same. Any on the spot models assembled /charts designed can be showcased to support the pertaining topic given for a minute, and bonus marks will be awarded for the same.

Finale will be held on 14th & 15th February 2014 at Hindustan University Campus, Chennai.

NCFE-National Financial Literacy Assessment Test


It is India’s first of it’s kind national-level test to measure the level of financial literacy among school students.  The Assessment would test students about their basic financial knowledge on topics such as money, budgeting, investment, banking, savings, insurance, retirement planning and financial planning.  Targeted towards school students of Classes VIII to X, this is the first of it’s kind test in India aimed at encouraging students to obtain basic financial skills and also giving a measure of Financial Literacy of students at the national-level.

Drawing may have a caption, but should the caption not exceed 2 lines & must be written in English/ Hindi.
The entries should not be mounted or framed.
The entry form (attached) should be filled up & completed in Hindi/English, or be accompanied by a translation in Hindi/English.
A maximum of two entries per category per school shall be entertained. Any entries beyond the specified limit shall be disqualified.
PASTE THE FORM at the back of the painting sheet, complete the form in your own hand writing along with signature of the Principal/ authorized signatory of the school with school stamp when submitting the painting.
All entrants not complying with the rules will be disqualified. The organizer’s decision shall be final & binding.
The organizers shall not be responsible for any loss/damage of an entry during transit.

Adjudication: The submissions will be judged on the basis of Originality & creativity.

‘SAVE WATER – SECURE THE FUTURE’ - Painting Competition for Students

The Painting Competition is being organized under the Information, Education & Communication (IEC) Scheme of Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India and is aimed at creating awareness among school children on the importance of conservation & efficient use of water.

Who can Participate
The competition is open to school students of Classes 6, 7 & 8.
Winners of 1st, 2nd 3rd prizes in State / National Level competitions organized by CGWB during the last 3 years are not eligible to participate in the competition. Though winners of consolation prizes in the above mentioned competitions are eligible to participate, their paintings shall be considered only for 1st, 2nd or 3rd prize in the State/National Level Competitions as the case may be.

The painting competition will be held in three stages, as described below:

School level competitions shall be organized by the school authorities, ensuring participation of all/maximum number of students in classes 6, 7 & 8. Papers of A4 Size or larger may be used for the painting. There is no restriction on the use of any medium (Crayons, Water Color etc.).
 The three best (or prize-winning) paintings  selected by the school authorities from Kerala Region, along with details of  the number of participants in the competition are to be sent to the Regional Director, Central Ground Water Board, Kerala Region, KEDARAM, Kesavadasapuram, Thiruvanathapuram – 695 004 latest by 20.10.2013.
Details such as name of the student, Class, age, Father’s/Mother’s Name, contact telephone number(s), Name, address and contact details of the school are to be written clearly on the back of the prize-winning entries being sent, together with the signature of the Head Master /Principal and School seal. Paintings received without the signature of the Head Master/Principal and School seal or sent directly by the students/parents will not be accepted. The details may be sent along with the pro-forma enclosed, duly filled.
Participation certificates shall be given to all students participating in the school level competition.

The paintings received from the school level competitions shall be evaluated by an expert committee for selection of the best 50 entries.

The best 50 entries selected from the school level competition will qualify for the State Level Painting Competition, proposed to be held at Thiruvananthapuram on 18.11.2013 (for Kerala Region)

Theme for the State Level Painting Competition will be disclosed at the venue.

The best three entries in the State Level Competitions shall be given cash awards and certificates.

Consolation prizes shall be given to the next 10 best entries and participation certificates to all 50 students participating in the competition.

The best 3 entries selected from the State Level Competition will also qualify for the National Level Painting Competition to be held in New Delhi on 27.12.2013. Attractive prizes will be awarded to the winners of the national contest.

Debate Topic:  Relevance of Hydrogen Energy in current scenario

National Talent Search Examination 2013-14

National Talent Search Scheme started in the year 1963. The purpose of the scheme is to  identify talented students and nurture them. This year NCERT will conduct the National Talent  Search Examination for students studying in Class X.
1. Scholarships: On the basis of the National Talent Search Examination, 1000 scholarships will be awarded. The amount of scholarship will be Rs.500/- per month.
2. Reservation: 15% scholarships will be reserved for students belonging to the SC category, 7.5% scholarships for students belonging to the ST category and 3% for Physically Challenged Group of Students.
3. Selection: There will be two-stage selection process for award of scholarship. For StageI, selection will be done by States/UTs through a written examination. Students, who qualify Stage- I, will be eligible to appear for Stage-II examination, conducted by NCERT.

Examination: The pattern of written examination will be as follows:
 Stage I examination at the State/UT level will comprise of two parts, namely (a)  Mental Ability Test (MAT) and (b) Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), which also includes Language Comprehensive Test.
 Stage II examination at the National level will comprise of (a) Mental Ability Test (MAT), (b) Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), which also includes Language Comprehensive Test.

State Quotas: Each State/Union Territory has been allotted a quota to recommend a specific number of candidates for the Stage II examination, the details of which will be made available on NCERT website. However, there will be no State/Union Territory Quota for the final award of scholarship after the Stage II examination. 
Application Form: You may contact the State/UT Liaison officer for procuring application form. However, application form can be downloaded from NCERT website <http://www.ncert.nic.in> also.

The completed application form should be signed by the Principal of the school. The candidate as well as the Principal of the school must adhere to the last date for submission of the Application Form. Different states may have different last dates for submission. Please confirm from the liaison officer of your state, the address at which the completed forms are to be submitted. The State wise contact of the liaison officers are given below and are also available in the NCERT website www.ncert.nic.in. All queries related to application form should be directed to the State Liaison Officers (LOs). No application should be sent to NCERT.

 Fees: States and Union Territories may notify the fee required which will be paid for the  Stage-I examination. Therefore, before submitting the application form, you may find out the fees charged for Stage-I Examination and also the mode of payment from the respective State Liaison Officers (LOs). However, NCERT does not charge any fee for Stage-II examination. 

Announcement of Results: Results of the Stage-I examination will be announced by the respective State Governments/ Union Territories. Results of Stage-II examination will be announced by NCERT.

Indian Students Studying Abroad in Class X can appear directly for Stage II NTS Examination under conditions prescribed in the NTS brochure which is available on the NCERT website. Candidates may fill up the Application Form, available on the NCERT website and send to the undersigned along with a photocopy of the mark sheet of previous examination, latest by March 31, 2014.

CBSE MERIT SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME FOR SINGLE GIRL CHILDREN - Apply Now!

The objective of CBSE merit scholarship scheme is to provide scholarships to the meritorious Single Girl Students, who are the only child of their parents; and have passed the CBSE Class X Examination with 60% / 6.2 CGPA or more marks/ grades and are continuing their further school education of Class XI and XII. The scheme is aimed to recognize the efforts of the parents in promoting education among girls and to provide encouragement to meritorious students.
As per the approval of the Competent Authority dated 23.07.2012, all children born together are Single Girl Child of their parents.
Allocation of scholarship
The number of scholarships for a particular year shall be variable and shall to awarded to all such "Single Girl Students" who have secured 60% / 6.2 CGPA or more marks / grades in the CBSE Class X Examination in that year.

Eligibility criteria
The scholarship shall be given on the basis of merit list as stated in Para 2 above, from the result of CBSE Class X Examination. The eligibility criteria shall be as under:
i) All Single Girl Students, who have secured  60% / 6.2 CGPA or more marks / grades in CBSE Class X Examination and are studying Class XI & XII in School (affiliated with CBSE) whose tuition fee is not more than Rs. 1,500/- p.m. during the academic year, shall be considered for the purpose. In the next two years, the total enhancement in tuition fee in such school shall not be more than 10% of the tuition fee charged in the year 2011 – 2012.
ii) The scholarship shall be awarded to Indian Nationals only.
iii) The student must continue her school studies in Class XI and XII in school as stated above in para 3(i).
iv) Candidates who have passed CBSE Class X  Examination in 2012 will be considered.
v) A Scholar under the scheme while availing scholarship can enjoy other concession(s) given by the school in which she is studying other organization(s).
Rate of Scholarships and mode of payment
The rate of scholarship shall be Rupees Five Hundred (Rs. 500/-) per month. A Scholarship awarded under the scheme shall be paid for a maximum period of two years. Payment will be made through demand drafts/ pay orders.
Selection Procedure
a) Student should have passed Class X Examination from the CBSE and secured 6.2 CGPA or more.
b) Pursuing Class XI & XII from CBSE affiliated Schools.
c) Student should be ONLY SINGLE GIRL CHILD of their parents.3
d) Original Affidavit duly attested by the First Class Judicial Magistrate/ SDM/ Executive Magistrate, as per prescribed format available on the Board’s website. (Photocopy of Affidavit will not be accepted).
e) Application form should be attested by the School Principal  from where the student is pursuing Class XI after passing Class X from Board’s Examination.
f) Tuition fee should not be more than Rs. 1,500/- per month in Class X and 10% enhancement for Class XI & XII.

Public Entrance Examination Coaching Scheme (PEECS)

Public Entrance Examination Coaching Scheme (PEECS) aims at imparting training to students of Government/Aided Higher Secondary Schools in Kerala, free of cost, to prepare for Entrance Examinations.

This will be by way of telecasting of classes with the help of experts in various subjects based on the syllabi of the Entrance Examinations, providing the facility for the students to interact with experts and clear their doubts, attend practice tests etc.
The classes are to be telecast during the school hours through VICTERS Channel. Students will be able to watch the telecast with their teachers. There will be a repeat telecast in the evening/night.
There will be a website for PEECS where students will have to register to use the facilities. They will take practice tests at this website. They will also get the facility to get answers for the questions in the test, post questions related to the topic to the resource person and get the answers etc. The students will be able to track their performance too. There is also a proposal to set up a Question Bank with the assistance of expert faculty.

3. All information detailing how to enter this competition forms part of these terms and conditions. 4. Contest categories will be for Best photograph,Best Poster Best video and for Best animated video. There will be separate winners for each category. 
5. Entries should be submitted through mathrubhumi.com contest page or direct to the Aptech office Entries must be labelled with the entrant’s name and image files must be atleast 150dpi and between 1MB and 3MB. For Videos duration is limited to the maximum of 10 minutes . Entrants should include their own name, address and telephone number. We regret that we are unable to accept postal entries. 
6. All entries must be received by the advertised closing time and date. 
7. All images submitted must be the work of the individual submitting them and must not have been published elsewhere or have won a prize in any other photographic competition. It is the responsibility of each entrant to ensure that any images they submit have been taken with the permission of the subject and do not infringe the copyright of any third party or any laws. Entrants must warrant that the photograph they are submitting is their own work and that they own the copyright for it. 
8. Copyright in all images submitted for this competition remains with the respective entrants. 19th International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer - Competitions for School Students

International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer is observed on 16th September in each year to commemorate the date on which Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer was signed in 1987. This International Day offers an opportunity to focus global attention and action on this vital environmental issue.
To create greater awareness among the students to protect the Ozone Layer, different competitions for the school students are arranged each year with active participation of the schools.
 
Date: August 26 & 27, 2013; Reporting Time: 8.30 hrs
Duration of Competition: 9.00 hrs to 17.00 hrs
Venue: The Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre (IHC), Lodhi Road, New Delhi- 110003

Competitions
This year, there will be six different competitions on the theme ‘Protection of the Ozone Layer’ for the school students in the age group of 13 to 17 years. The different categories of the competitions are:
1. Poster Design : Drawing sheet (3 best entries)
2. Painting : Drawing sheet (3 best entries)
3. Slogan Writing : (3 best entries)
4. Model Making : (1 best entry)
5. Quiz on Ozone Science: Written (Max. 3 students–Individual entry)
6. Skit Competition : 15 minutes (not more than 5 students)

Participation of Students
In general, the competitions of Painting, Poster Design, Model Making and Slogan Writing will be arranged by the respective schools and the nominated entries of the schools will be displayed at the venue for evaluation on August 26, 2013. The Written Quiz on Ozone Science will be held on August 27, 2013 and Skit of 15 Minutes will be arranged at the venue on August 26 & 27, 2013.
Only school nominated students will be allowed to participate in the competitions.
Last date of receiving nominations is August 19, 2013 and nomination received after last date will not be entertained.
For active participation, schools are requested to nominate students early in advance and make necessary arrangement for the participation of their students at the venue on August 26 & 27, 2013

Nomination Procedures
Individual competitions for each of the above categories will be arranged  at the school level by the school authorities through a transparent selection process.
Based on the internal competitions, respective school should shortlist/select 3 best entries in each categories of Painting, Poster Design, and Slogan Writing and intimate about nominated entries and
send along with the Paintings, Posters, and Slogans before the last date i.e. August 19, 2013.
* In skit competition only one team from each school will be entertained for participating in the competition
For the Model Making each school may shortlist 1 best entry and the shortlisted model can be represented by max. 2 students. Schools are advised to bring the Model on the date of competition i.e. August 26, 2013.
For the Written Quiz on Ozone Science and Skit of 15 Minutes, school should nominate their participants (maximum 3 students for quizindividual entry and 5 students for Skit Competition*).
School should use the given Format (Nomination Form) for nominating the entries. The nominated entries of Paintings, Posters, and Slogans should have proper label fixed at the back. The label must legible and should contain the following basic information and preferably it should have the official seal of the school:

All nominations for Painting, Poster, Slogan, Model Making, Quiz and Skit competition should be sent to the given contact address before August 19, 2013.

Best Entries and Awards
The available entries of Paintings, Posters, Models and Slogans received from schools will be displayed at the venue on August 26, 2013 and a Panel of Judges will evaluate the entries for 1st, 2nd and 3rd position.
The Written Quiz on Ozone Science will be arranged on August 27, 2013 and Skit of 15 Minutes on August 26 & 27, 2013 at the venue and results will be finalized accordingly by the judges. The nominated teams for skit competition will be informed by the Ozone Cell regarding the date for their competition after receiving the nomination form.
Winners of different categories will be intimated within two week of the competition and  Prize/Certificate will be awarded on September 16, 2013 by the Chief Guest of the Function.

Note:  In skit competition only one team from each school will be entertained for participating in the competition
