Poster Making Contest - Motor Vehicle Driving Regulations

Posters as a type of visual art have become an important tool for advertising and promoting a plethora of causes. It is in fact a scientifically proven fact that posters have the potential to effectively expand knowledge, change attitudes and alter behaviors. When 17 lives are lost every passing hour in India owing to road crashes and close to 150 wild animals die due to the carelessness of the one on the driving seat, it would be a relevant measure to utilize the creative thinking and aesthetic skills of young artists across the nation especially in propagating the message of road safety to the masses.

In light of this, we'd like to offer a warm welcome to all the budding artists to participate in this Poster-Making competition and use your creative minds to create art that inspires. So, pick up your art supplies, turn on your graphic tablets and create breathtaking posters on the theme!

We welcome entries in the form of digital submissions, hand-drawn sketches, paintings with any medium, and illustrations.

The theme for this event is Motor Vehicle Driving Regulations

As far as Indian roads are concerned, the rights and responsibilities of cyclists, walking pedestrians, and wheelchair users (adapted vehicles) are constantly overlooked in practice albeit legal protections. Despite the Indian Motor Vehicles Acts providing cyclists equal rights and status as motorized vehicles on highways, they are often sidelined, and casualties among this group is alarmingly high. Similarly, multiple legislations, including the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Regulation Act 1988 legally protects the lives of pedestrians by prohibiting motor vehicles on footpaths and instituting large fines against violations. Yet, 62 pedestrians die daily in the country. Even for adaptive vehicles like wheelchairs, the Motor Vehicles Amendment Act mandates the requirements and lays out ownership laws for the disabled person. However, there are very few public utilities that meet these mandates, and the consequent vulnerability largely lowers ease of travel for the community. At the face of such unequal and unfortunate circumstances, this theme urges the participants to think creatively and empathetically, as well as familiarize themselves with these legal protections to unlearn the internalized bias against non-motorized means of travel.

AWARDS
The best 5* entries will receive Rs 5,000/- each.

IMPORTANT DATES
1. Call for entries - 15 November, 2021
2. Last day for submission of entries - 31 December, 2021

JUDGEMENT CRITERIA
1. Impact and relevance to theme
2. Ability to stand alone- The poster should be able to stand alone as a clear communication of the theme prescribed.
3. Overall Visual appeal
4. Legibility
5. Quality of graphic

Rangoli Making Competition - Ministry of Culture

A timeless and very important part of our vibrant culture can be found in the many hues of Rangolis, found at the entrance of almost every Indian household and at every auspicious occasion of celebration. For centuries, we have had a tradition of lending colours to festivals through Rangoli. The diversity of our country is visible in Rangoli. Rangoli is drawn in different states with different names and on different themes.

Be it Kollam in Tamil Nadu, Sathiya in Gujarat, Alpana in Bengal, Mandana in Rajasthan, Osa in Odisha, Aipan in Uttarakhand, or simply the Rangoli from Maharashtra – every region has its own unique way of representing their traditions, folklore and practices.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always championed and celebrated India’s vibrant local culture and practices. From locally made textiles and ceremonial head dresses to schemes like Vocal for Local, his has been a leadership that not only promotes our rich heritage but also instils within us, pride and admiration for our wonderful culture.

It is that time of the year when a festive mood takes over the nation – what better time to spread the cheer through the colorful expressions of the many-hued Rangoli?

Through a nationwide Rangoli contest, we plan to celebrate the vibrant and iconic traditions of India – at their creative best. Be it the intricate designs, beautiful patterns, or the abundant use of colours – we welcome entries from every corner of our vast nation in an effort to showcase the treasure trove of our cultural heritage.

Selection Criteria
Every Indian between the ages of 16-45 is invited to send in their entries on the website.

Only entries for physical Rangoli designs shall be eligible for the contest. Digitally created Rangolis, that have not been physically made in real will not be considered as valid entries. Rangoli related to the freedom movement may be created, picture of a hero of the freedom struggle and depict an event of our independence movement with colours, hues of the Amrit festival.

The competition will be held in three stages to incentivise local art forms to emerge and be declared winners and also have the chance to compete at state and national level.

District level
A number of prominent locations in each district will be identified where initial competitors can enter into the competition. Best entries from a particular district will be selected and will be declared as District Level winners selected through a specially constituted jury. Each winner at the district level will advance to the state level competition.
Winning Entries
Rangolis representing the story and the vibrancy of our culture and traditions, shall be rewarded publicly and provided a national audience.
