Students from New Delhi, Noida and Nashik Schools win study trips to Australian Universities

Australian Prime Minister, the Hon Malcolm Turnbull, MP and Senator the Hon Simon Birmingham, MP and Minister for Education and Training, Australian Government met with the winners of The Advance to Australia, “A2Oz” - India Schools Video Competition 2016-2017 in New Delhi yesterday.

Students from New Delhi, Noida and Nashik schools won study trips to Australian Universities. Students from 325 schools across India participated in the competition and developed short films on next generation fields of study in areas of growing career opportunities in aerospace, construction management, earth sciences, nanotechnology and story-telling through dance.

The winners of the competition organised jointly by the Australian Trade & Investment Commission (Austrade), and Cambridge English Language Assessment are:

·         Aerospace theme - Sanskriti School, New Delhi
·         Earth Sciences theme -Wisdom High International School, Nashik
·         Construction Management theme - Delhi Public School, RK Puram
·         Story-telling through Dance theme - Kothari International School, Noida
·         Nanotechnology theme - Wisdom High International School, Nashik

Students along with teachers from each of the winning schools will travel to Australia to participate in an all-expenses paid study programme to the sponsoring Universities between May to July 2017.

Speaking about the competition, Leonie Muldoon, Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner – South Asia, Australian Trade and Investment Commission said, “The Australian Trade and Investment Commission is delighted to support this competition. An objective of the A2OZ competition is to broaden the horizons of Indian students and expose them to new study options in Australia, particularly in fields that link to careers of the future. 
The competition has provided a wonderful opportunity for Indian students to exhibit their creative talents. We congratulate all the winners and look forward to joining the Sponsoring Universities in welcoming them to Australia.”

 “There are more than 60,000 Indian students as of December 2016 studying in Australia. We would like to invite more Indian students to study in Australia in courses where Australia is a world leader and this includes educational programmes in archeology, earth & marine sciences, mineral & mining engineering, environmental sciences, nursing, pharmacy & pharmacology and veterinary science. Australia is also a significant international education destination for emerging or future careers in areas ranging from technology, digital, robotics, media & entertainment, scientific research, health, and future materials. These programmes will provide Indian students the foundation for a global career in areas of future employment growth”, said Leonie Muldoon. 

TK Arunachalam, Regional Director, South Asia, Cambridge English Language Assessment said, “This is the third edition of the competition and it is exciting to see the wealth of creative ideas and approaches, the five topics have brought out this year. Cambridge English focuses on helping young talents of the country to come out with flying colours with commendable Language and Communicative Skills and it is fabulous to see these creative videos presented in the international language of communication. We look forward to hearing from the deserving winners when they return from their prize-winning trips to Australia.” 

The competition was sponsored by University of Sydney, RMIT University, Australian National University, Macquarie University, University of Southern Queensland, Urbanest, Allianz and Credila.
