16th KVS Junior Mathematical Olympiad

Mathematics Olympiad is organised at State, Regional, National, and International levels. This is organised by National Board for Higher Mathematics since 1988 and is conducted in three stages - Regional Mathematics Olympiad(RMO), Indian National Mathematics Olympiad (INMO) and then and International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (IMOTC). IMOTC selects six best students to represent India in International Mathematics Olympiad(IMO).
KVS is conducting its own Mathematical Olympiad programme in two phases. Junior Mathematical Olympiad (JMO) and Regional Mathematics Olympiad (KVS-RMO). After screening the students by JMO, about top 100 students trained and tested by RMO. Top 30 students from RMO will then participate in INMO conducted by NBHM.

Eligibility Criteria
A student studying in Class X who secured A2 or higher grade in Mathematics in Class IX and
A student studying in Class  XI with mathematics as an elective subject (irrespective of the stream opted) who secured A2 higher grade in Mathematics in Class X examination can appear.
A student studying in Class XII with Mathematics as an elective subject who secured 80% and above marks in Class XI in Mathematics can also appear

Note: There will be a common question paper for all the participants

Syllabus
The syllabus for Mathematical Olympiad (regional, national and international) is pre-degree college Mathematics. The areas covered are arithmetic of integers, geometry, quadratic equations and expressions, trigonometry, co-ordinate geometry, system of linear equations, permutations and combinations, factorization of polynomials, inequalities, elementary combinatorics, probability theory and number theory, finite series and complex numbers and elementary graph theory. The syllabus does not include calculus and statistics. The major areas from which problems are given are number theory, geometry, algebra and combinatorics. The syllabus is in a sense spread over class XI to class XII levels, but the problems under each topic involve high level of difficulty and sophistication. The difficulty level increase from JOM-RMO-INMO-IMO.

Procedure for Registration
The eligible and interested candidate has to register on prescribed form which is available at KVS Website or at the Schools.

Last Date: 15 July 2013

Examination Centrer
The Deputy Commissioner of the Region concerned will identify the Examination Centres. The venue will be intimated to the KVs and to the students.

Date and Time of Examination: 1 September 2013 Sunday at 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM

Declaration of Result: November 2013

Merit Certificates and Cash Awards for JMO
1. Rs. 10000, Rs. 8000 and Rs. 5000 for securing first, second and third position respectively at KVS National Level
2.  Rs. 5000, Rs. 4000 and Rs. 3000 for securing first, second and third position respectively at KVS Regional  Level
 3. Students eligible for KVS National as well as Regional Level awards shall be conferred with higher cash prize only
Merit certificates will be given to those students who secure atlease 35% marks in JMO

 Rs. 10000, Rs. 8000 and Rs. 5000 for securing first, second and third position respectively at KVS National Level with merit certificates

International Schools’ Software Competition - 2013 (CSI Young Talent Search in Computer Programming 2013)

CSI Young Talent Search in Computer Programming - Selection of teams to represent India at SEARCC (South East Asia Regional Computer Confederation) International Schools’ Software Competition - 2013

1. Computer Society of India conducts a National level School Students Software Competition every year. The winners will represent the country in the SEARCC International Schools’ Software Competitions as per details given below.

2. Objective : To bring out problem solving and programming talents in school students, with speed, accuracy and team co-ordination, in a competitive environment and motivate them with due recognition, besides attractive prizes and certificates.

3. Eligibility :
3.1 It is a team based competition. Each team will consist of 3 students. All team members of school teams must be full-time students with age of 18 years or under, i.e. born on or after 1st January 1995.
3.2 A school can register only one team.

4. Format:
4.1 The competition will be of two (2) hours duration, consisting of 4 problems using ONE of the Programming languages, viz., C or C++ or Java. It is to test the problem solving ability using a computer programming language. The teams will be selected on the basis of correct outputs and speed of submission of solutions to problems.

4.2 A first level Regional Competition is scheduled on Sunday the 28th July 2013 and will be held in 19 centres as per details given below. Depending on response of teams, more centres can be added as appropriate. Please indicate your choice of the city. However, if the number of teams is very less in a city, we shall allocate the nearest centre with sufficient notice to you. Expenses for taking part in first level regional competition will have to be borne by the teams or schools themselves.

4.3 - National level Final Competition will be held in Chennai on Sunday the 1st September 2013.

4.4 Travel assistance for National Competition:
The teams selected for participation in the National Level Final Competition, with one accompanying teacher per team will be paid the actual cost of travel by train in II class sleeper coach by the shortest route from origin to Chennai and back.

4.5 Local Hospitality : Suitable boarding and lodging facility will be provided by CSI at Chennai.

5. Participation in SEARCC International Schools’ Software Competitions : The top two teams at the National level will represent India at the SEARCC International Schools’ Software Competition 2013 (ISSC 2013) to be held at Colombo, Sri Lanka between 24th and 27th October 2013.

Excel 2013 - IBETO - Junior - Competitions for School Students

Excel is the annual techno-managerial symposium of Govt. Model Engineering College (MEC), hosted in association with IEEE.

This year, for the first time ever, Excel 2013 will host of 2 first-of-its-kind nationwide ventures exclusively for school students.

*Innovations for a Better Tomorrow* - Junior
Innovations for a Better Tomorrow (IBETO) is a flagship initiative of Excel, powered by IEEE Foundation. It is a nationwide venture with prize money of INR 1 lakh, that aims to encourage technical innovation and the use of technology for the betterment of society, among Engineering students.

Ibeto Jr., is a version of the same competition conducted nationally for school students, studying in 8th Grade and higher. Students are asked to come up with innovative original and creative technical project ideas that
can benefit society. With prize money of INR 25,000, it is a venture to encourage innovation and foster students’ creativity and imagination, giving them the chance to use what they know to work for a better tomorrow.

IBETO-Jr. is a national level competition to encourage innovative and socially beneficial project ideas from high school students.

 The students can participate as team of maximum 5 people or as individuals.
 Students can submit a write-up about their project between June 10, 2013 and June 29, 2013 on the official website www.ibeto.excelmec.org/junior.
 A maximum of 5 best project ideas will be selected and results announced by July 1, 2013.
 The students are required to implement their project ideas within a span of 2 months.
 The 5 projects will get the chance to be displayed at EXCEL 2013.
 The winner of the competition will be awarded a whopping amount of Rs 25,000, in addition to Certificates of Recognition and Participation.

WRITE-UP FORMAT:

Teams must submit a write-up of their project idea at www.ibeto.excelmec.org/junior. The following subtitles are to be included: 
TEAM DETAILS: 1) Team Name 2) Name of School, City, State 3) Name, Email id, Contact Number of all Team members
PROJECT DETAILS: 1) The idea 2) Description and Working 3) Innovation (How innovative the project idea is) 4) Social impact (How socially beneficial / relevant the project is) 5) Diagrams / other relevant Info.

ELIGIBILITY & TEAM SPECIFICATIONS
 Eligibility: School students (Grade 8 and upwards), not more than 19 years old.

 The maximum number of members in a team is 5. Cross-Institution teams are permitted.

GENERAL
 The idea must be original, innovative, socially beneficial, and implementable as a project.
 The write-up about the idea should be submitted on or before June 29th, 2013.
 A maximum of 5 teams will be selected, and the selected teams will be informed through telephone and e-mail.
 Projects are to be completed by September, 2013 and completed projects will be awarded Certificate of completion, authorized by supporting institutions, faculty and Team Excel 2013.
 Decision of the judges will be final and binding.

 Rules are liable to change, and teams will be informed of the same if any.
